PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION IN ORDER TO LET ABC KNOW THAT WE WOULD LIKE FOR BROOKE SMITH TO RENAME ON GREY'S ANATOMY AS ERICA HAHN.

Brooke Smith, also known as Dr. Erica Hahn on ABC's Grey's Anatomy, has spoken up and to EW.com's Michael Ausiello about having been let go from Grey's Anatomy. You can read that interview here: http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2008/11/brooke-smith-le.html

As Brooke mentioned within the interview, "I found out in mid-September soon after shooting the monologue that aired last week where Erica has the revelation that she's gay. They even came down and told me it was a great scene -- one of the best they ever shot on the show. So I was really, really shocked. I was floored when they told me [I was being let go]. It was the last thing I expected. In fact, when they told me I asked, "When is this happening?" And they said, "The [next episode] is your last," which is the one that airs this Thursday. So it was very sudden."

It is horrible to know that ABC has been so harsh towards Brooke. It’s ridiculous to think that an extraordinary actress – and if her short “you are glasses” monologue isn’t enough proof of her potential, I don’t know what is – is being treated so unfairly. And why? Because of the storyline in which Erica Hahn and Callie Torres have found themselves in.

You may be a Callica fan, you may not. But please realize that this isn’t just about the fandom, this isn’t just about your like or dislike for Erica Hahn. This is about the fact ABC - or so it seems as if they have - asked for Erica Hahn be immediately written off of the show because she is being written as a lesbian, because they felt uncomfortable with the direction of the Callica storyline. And that is not only homophobic, but is also an obvious slap across the face for all people within the GLBT community. Why is a possible lesbian relationship making the network uncomfortable? Why is it okay for all other characters to engage in sexual/romantic relationships with each other and yet a relationship between Erica and Callie is unacceptable?

This is discrimination and it should be stopped.

SPREAD THE WORD. LET’S SHOW ABC THAT GLBT RELATIONSHIPS CAN BE PORTRAYED ON PRIMETIME TELVISION. IT’S 2008, NOT 1958!
