I support this petition. Brooke Smith is an extremely talented actress and a great addition to the show. Erica Hahn was one of my favourite characters. Brooke did not deserve to be simply dismissed like this.
Brooke Smith should remain on the show. The writing for her character has been some of the bravest, most real writing that I have seen, and she has brought life and depth to a character that started out as a foil for Preston Burke. She has evolved into a complex, mature woman who has GREAT chemistry with Sara Ramirez's Callie (much better, in fact, than the chemistry that the Callie/George pairing could muster. I am so disappointed with the network, and I have always felt like ABC was my network, from GMA in the morning to the news with Charlie Gibson, and the night time line-up. I am so disappointed.
ABC you allowed a homophobe to complete his contract and bring closure to his storylines. Before he utterd the f-word at the Golden Globes you attempted to rehabilitate his image. Afterwards you tried to rehabilitate his attitude.
Now you fire a talented actress, who has been a friend to the LGBT community, because of homophobes. It's clear from whom you take your directions. It's sad when NBC and CBS have shown little interest in LGBT issues I thought you were an oasis. Instead you decide to join them.
Bring Brooke back and stand up against hate!
I support this petition. The US is widely seen as a world leader. Why? We are in 2008 and Europe has a better handle on how the world actually is. First this and then Prop 8 in california. ABC seriously getting rid of one of the best actresses on the show bad move!!
I support this petition, because Brooke Smith is an amazing actress who doesn't deserve to be fired this way.
Also, it can't be that networks let all gay characters be written out of their shows, just because the "aren't comfortable" about them. It's 2008, let's all grow up a bit.
Hey ABC, Brooke Smith is a really amazing and talented actress. Please bring her back to GA as a regular star. We all love her and want her back. It doesn't matter if Callica storyline is cut, as long as we can see Dr. Hahn in GA. Thank you. Jas. From HK.
I support this petition. Hell yeah! I still can't believe that ABC is this homophobic. Makes me want to cry or vomit or break something or all of the above.
I completely, wholly support this petition. The reasons why Smith was let go are infuriating and ridiculous. I will not be forgetting this, which will ultimately hurt ABC. What a horrible mistake.
I support this petition. How disappointing to hear about Brooke's firing from Grey's Anatomy. It's 2008. Brooke is such a credit to her profession. What a surprise as her character Erica Hahn was one of the key characters of this show. Please rethink this poor decision. Thank you. Vicki. UK.
The way Brooke was abrupty dismissed was disgusting and ABC is being totally disrepectful...Bring Brooke Smith BACK! Erica Hahn was an amazing character!
I support this petition wholeheartedly. To "let go" an actress, who's a main character, with little reasoning other than, "they're having issues with the explicit direction that Brooke Smith's character and her relationship with Callie were heading". The way her departure was handled is hypocritical considering the Isaiah Washington scandal, and quite frankly it disgusts me. I thought ABC could withstand the scrutiny for having real gay/lesbian/transgender people/couples on their shows. I guess I was wrong.
I honestly believe that the dismissal of Brooke Smith, and the end of the Callie/Erica relationship, is going to cost ABC in the long run. I hope this makes a difference in bringing Brooke back, or at least ABC's future policies.
It's 2008. Gay and lesbian people are a big part of our community, and they deserve representation on mainstream network television. Brooke Smith is a fantastic actor and her storyline with Sara Ramirez's Callie was fresh, intruiging, and necessary in the current political and social climate. I am very disappointed in ABC for their obvious bigotry and discrimination.
Shame on you ABC. Bring Brooke Smith back! She's the only reason I started watching Grey's in the first place. And firing her after she moved her family to LA...horrible. This is homophobic and bigoted, and I am furious that you started the season, let this WONDERFUL storyline continue and then you got cold feet. You might shove the lesbians on your show into the closet, but you will NOT shove ME back into the closet! Shame!!!
Just when I thought television was stepping forward, they stepped back. I can't believe how Brooke Smith has been treated throughout this. She does not deserve this.
Brooke Smith is an excellent actress and doesn't deserve this. The blatant homophobic message all of this is sending out will hopefully give Grey's the backlash it deserves.
I still can't even wrap my head around this one. This all was very sudden and I'm extremely disappointed in ABC for dismissing this character, and disappointed in the show for not standing up for her or the Callie/Erica storyline, one that they had originally seemed quite passionate about telling.
To hear that Brooke Smith and her character Doctor Erica Hahn have been unceremoniously dumped from Grey's Anatomy has left me appalled and incensed.
Although a lesbian storyline is obviously outside of the ABC's comfort zone, it was handled with grace, humor intelligence and realism, created and unravelled in an intelligent and meaningful way.
That your network has made the decision to truncate this storyline immediately, without cause or explanation, is repugnant.
But more than that - to delete an entire character and exceptional actress from a (formerly) exceptional show, is appalling. And for your network to presume Grey's Anatomy fans would either not care, or not notice, is insulting.
Shame on you.
As a member of the LGBT community, I find this incredibly discriminating. I am also completely confused as to why Brooke Smith needed to be fired in such a hasty, rude manner. If it was really about the characters no longer having chemistry, I see no reason why they could not have had the characters part ways while still allowing a wonderful, talented actress to remain on the show. Many of the other characters have been in relationships which ended for some reason or another, and yet they still remain on the show. The fact that Brooke Smith was so hastily ejected smacks of homophobia, and does not at all sit well with me. I have been a loyal fan of the show for years, and will be sorry if I have to discontinue my support. If there is any way to redeem yourselves, I suggest figuring it out, as you as a network owe an incredibly large apology to the LGBT community. We're waiting.
I really hope ABC will reconsider the dismissal of Brooke Smith, whose portrayal of Erica Hahn has been prasied not only by critics and fans, but by fellow cast members as well. Did Chandra Wilson not say on the season 4 DVDs that Brooke has a quality as an actor that is really wonderful to play off of? I just don't understand the logic of firing her so abruptly. It shows not only a disregard for talent, but also a blatant disregard for the entire GLBT community. While I simply adore Brooke Smith, I watched the show before she came on and if she were let go under any other circumstance, I would probably still watch the show. However, the situation surrounding her dismissal thoroughly sickens me and if something isn't done about this blatant discrimination, I will certainly not be watching Grey's Anatomy (or any other show on ABC) any longer (which is really upsetting because there are *several* ABC shows that I currently watch and love. Please don't make me lose faith in television.)
Where did this even *come* from? I can understand ending the fictional relationship, but why eject her from the show in such a quick and disrespectful manner? Could it be that she reminded you too much of *real* lesbians? I sure hope not. Because *this* lesbian is now boycotting your show unless you somehow redeem yourselves.
I do feel the firing of Brooke Smith was un-wise on ABC's part. They really should have taken a step back and realize that many viewers embraced Hahn's character with or without the relationship between her and another character. I hope that they will turn around and re-evaluate their decision.
I support this petition. Brooke Smith is a great actress playing a great character who doesn't deserve to be let go - whether she is being let go for prejudice against her character or other reasons, she has been the reason I've kept watching the show into the fifth season. Now she's gone, I don't plan to watch or buy ABC products again.
I totally support this petition!
Brooke Smith's portrayal of Dr. Erica Hahn was one of the most honest, realistic and human characters on what used to be a groundbreaking show which has slipped into soft, safe pap.
I support this petition. Erica Hahn's character has deoth and just like any other character she has flaws too. Brooke Smith is a wonderful actress and doesn't deserve to be thrown aside the way she was.
I'm mostly just...baffled by what's going on here. I've never seen an actor get fired just because their main storyline was disliked. Such an action implies there is an inherent problem with the character, namely that she is gay. But why is this a problem? Maybe it's controversial, but it's not causing anyone to stop watching. I thought ABC and Grey's Anatomy were going to be revolutionary and have normal, lesbian characters on primetime television. I guess I was wrong.
Aside from that, I'll miss Brooke Smith. She was an amazing actress and I loved having someone give Bailey a run for her money.
