To remove Ms. Smith with such lame reasons as given by Ms. Rhimes; along with other recent actions against GLBT characters, and staff; is to me evidence of unwarranted homophobia. I will no longer be following ABC shows, and indeed will be boycotting the parent company, Disney.
An incredibly dumb move by ABC based on some vague nonsense about 'chemistry' which seemed to be made up to appease the Parents Television Council, conservative groups, and fans of the other couples who seem to think they don't get enough airtime. The timing and hiding of this was beyond appaling and smells of an attempt to hide a controversy behind the bigger story of the election.
I support this petition. Stop the hate, it is ridiculous to fire someone for such discriminatory reasons. I think the actress has been a great addition to this cast and carries so many scenes. Please keep her on the show.
I support this petition. Brooke Smith shouldn't be let go, she's an amazing character and its more than a coincidence that she's let go just as the relationship between Callie and Erica gets going. I've got the feeling that the Gay panic spoken about is coming from ABC rather than any of the Grey's Anatomy characters.
I support this petition. I was completely suprised when i read about it today. I'm not from America but I can honestly say that I am disgusted with ABC and GA for firing Brooke Smith & Re-writing Melissa George's character. What the network did was just wrong.
I support this petition. Brooke Smith should come back to Grey's Anatomy. She's a great actress and the Callie/Erica relationship is doing well. SO PLEASE! BRING HER BACK!
I support this petition. I am personaly disgusted with both ABC and GA heads for firing Brooke Smith on the basis of her charectors sexual orgination portrayed on the show. Dealing with the previous issues surrounding the show and certain homosexual comments made by a former Cast member getting blasted in the press, I think this show needs all the help in the area of acceptance of people of different sexual orientations. The show has now been tainted for me to even watch
I support this petition. I think it's ridiculous that not only did they cut out an amazing actress, but they cut a gay storyline that had actually drawn my attention.
People often say that we, as a society, are more comfortable seeing lesbian relationships than gay ones. However, I don't believe that is true. Real gay relationships on primetime TV and even on ABC are very visible and are beginning to be portrayed in a very positive and realisitc manner. I would argue that lesbian relationships face greater obstacles when writers try to portray them on primetime television. We, as a society, aren't used to seeing lesbian behaviour unless it is directed at a male, sexual gaze, for the BENEFIT of the male sexual gaze. This is sexist and unacceptable and I, as a heterosexual woman, would be HAPPY to see a real, honest lesbian relationship portrayed on Primetime. Many Grey's fans love Callie and Dr. Hahn's relationship and you are cowards to simply write their relationship out of the show because you don't think it will be popular.
I support this petition. I think far too often, I've come to expect a sort of treatment of lesbian characters and lgbt characters in general in my favorite shows. Because that's the way it's always been. But I had real faith in Grey's Anatomy. I had faith because Shonda Rhimes' writing is inspiring and interesting, despite the somewhat limiting medium that is a "dramatic series". I had faith because the characters were black, latina, and asian american. I had faith because the women were as strong as the men, because the relationships were diverse. I had faith because Grey's proved to me over and over again that I had reason to have faith. And I put my faith in this show one more time with the development of Dr. Erica Hahn, including the Callica storyline. And you know what? I've put my faith in this show one too many times. I don't want to have to EXPECT the mistreatment of lesbian characters anymore. I don't want to sit back and watch as ABC and other networks take away everything I care about and fight for on a daily basis in my real life. That doesn't represent me.
I'm an extremely straight female, and yet the Callie/Erica relationship became my favorite as soon as it started (and I've been an Alex/Izzie supporter for forever!). This blatant disrespect for Brooke Smith and for the GLBT community is something I did not expect from ABC. Before Nov 3rd, I was a dedicated viewer of several ABC shows, including Desperate Housewives, Boston Legal, Brothers & Sisters, and of course, Grey's Anatomy. However, I plan to end my viewership entirely after this week's episode, unless this situation is readdressed.
I support this petition. Brooke Smith is the best thing that ever happened to the show. She is a brilliant, dedicated, unbelievably talented actress and she does not deserve this.
I support this petition. Erica Hahn is my favourite character and Brooke Smith is a phenomenal actress. Callie/Erica were a fine pairing, their issue wasn't lack of chemistry, they had plenty, but rather bad story developments and writing. The material was letting down the actresses. Ms. Smith should not be punished for poor creative decisions.
I support this petition because gay relationships or gay characthers shouldn't be blinded from TV. I'm sorry for Grey's Anatomy 'cause i won't watch it anymore
I support this petition. It is outrageous that a talented actress should have to worry about losing her job simply because of a homophobic studio committee.
I stuck it out with Grey's through the disaster that was Seasons 3 and 4. Now that the show is starting to come back with its original quirks, they ruin it for us again. It could be homophobia or it could be a lack of smarts in regards to what the demographic wants to see - either way the higher powers that be really need an adjustment.
Callie/Hahn relationship is one of the best storylines in season 4. Firing Brooke Smith was an extremely homophobic and disgusting decision. This is one fan that will be walking away with Dr. Erica Hahn. ABC, you fail!
