I support this petition. As a one time visitor to the state (1999) and specifically the Dana-Thomas house, I was impressed by the way that history was being preserved. Will a return visit be worth it? I really hope so.
I strongly support leaving our Historic Sites open, even if hours have to be reduced. I believe it is important to give everybody the opportunity to see life as it was so that they can understand the importance of what is happening in our time. It makes much more of an impact for children, and even adults to see the actual places where history took place.
I support this petition. I don't understand how the State of Illinois can go from being so incredibly supportive and proud of their museums that they offer critical capitol grants to only a few years later pulling the rug out of all support for the keepers of the history of this state! Once it is gone, it is gone!
I support this petition. Vandalia is an important state wide historical site. We are very proud of our State House, Lincoln Park and the soon to be installed Wayside Exhibits. It would be an economic blow for our State House to be closed, and it doesn't make sense for the Federal Governmnet to initiate dollars for our state to celebrate the Lincoln Bicennential and then have our historical landmarks relating to the Lincoln Story be close.
Tourism is big business in Illinois, especially with the Lincoln Bicennential coming up. Closing sites such as the Davis Mansion, Vandalia Statehouse and Dana Thomas House is going to cost the state more in admission donations than the funds saved.
I support this petition. History and culture are two very important components of civilization and we in the Museum community try very hard to provide the means and education to enjoy our heritage.
people need history.or else when there sad they cant look at a time when they were worse to.and if i was a billionare i would donate money to save history.peace out yo.
The cost of mismanagement of state funds should not be borne on the backs of the custodians of state history. The Land of Lincoln is a national treasure and state sites deserve continued funding.
