I support this petition. I was born, raised, and lived in Illinois most of my life. I am also a retired Illinois school teacher and know these sites are important to all, especially the children.
I support this petition. The Dana house is Frank Lloyd Wright's most complete home and a international treasure!
It is a worldwide tourist draw and a pint of state cultural and historic pride.
I support this petition. The Dana house is a very special Wright house. It has over 250 pieces of stained glass, over 22,000 square feet, and it's own bowling alley! We need to protect and share this treasure for our children and our children's children.
I support this petition!! I now live in Washington State, having been born and raised in Illinois, but also have generational history for Illinois dating from 1850. I have (4) family lineages minimum that settled in Northern Illinois and raised families there, including myself. Ending the support for The Illinois Historical Preservation Agency is asinine to say the least. There has to be other areas more wasteful in dollar spending that need to be cut back than this agency I am positive. With the Lincoln anniversary celebration closely approaching makes it even more senseless. Not to forget all the lost historical value for the children that visit and learn from the various sites and advance their education!!!!
I support this petition.I find it very difficult to believe that the State of Illinois would be so short-sighted as to close sites associated with both Lincoln and Grant, the 2 men who saved the Union. My two great-great grandfathers and one great-great-great grandfather did not serve to save the Union only to have their efforts denigrated by the closing of historical sites associated with the leaders in the Civil War. Lincoln is our greatest president; Grant one of our greatest generals and Sandburg, who celebrated Illinois in his poetry - all of whom probably generate millions in tourist dollars, deserve better.
I support this petition.I personaly love Abraham Lincoln and loved what he did for our country.Shut down our historical sites and land markings and stop our tourism and our income on tourism then we will DEFINETLEY be in trouble with our budget
I support this petition. stop embezzelling our money mr. blagoavich and threatehing illinois treasures. You will never win a re-election the way you are going people is this state are ticked off big time at your corruption, especially after you called Judy Barr Topinka corrupt and now the fact are becoming clear! We are sick of it I hope you get impeached if you do not stop! This is the final staw! Knock it off already. I hope you end up in the same cell as gov ryan! We are fed up!
I support this petition.
I live in Albany Oregon and cannot understand why you would not be seeing that all historical items are saved and are able to be viewed by history buffs.
And to think you are part of Lincoln's history!
I think it would be a great mistake to cut the budget of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency. In this year of Lincoln's Bicentennial, it seems all the more important that we allow this agency to help preserve and spread the great history of the State of Illinois. Thank you.
I support this petition. As a board member of the Carl Sandburg Historic Site Association, I am fully committed to any legislation that overturns the drastic cuts in the IHPA budget.
I support this petition. It would be a tragedy if State Parks and Historic sites in Illinois were closed. What perverse thinking it is to consider closing them. How about if we cut the Governor's transportation budget instead.
I support this petition. As a native of Illinois, and with family in northern Illinois for seven generations now, Illinois' present and past are both very important to me. Illinois has always been proud of its heritage and shown that fact by the support of its people and its history. Stopping such support, especially just before the Lincoln Bicentennial, will give a far different message to the world. It is a wrong move in many ways, let alone the loss of tourist dollars that will result in this very important year. What will those tourists think of a state that does not value its history!?!
I support this petition. If there is one American in all our history to learn about, it would be Lincoln. For all foreign visitors and our own youth, to learn about Lincoln is to learn about America and all she can be. I take our foreign exchange students to the Lincoln Museum so they have an appreciation of what freedom is, and how a man of character can make profound changes in the world, even under the most difficult personal circumstances. Illinois taxpayers fund these historic sites; free up our money!
I support this petition. Some of my favorite family memories are at the historic sites in Springfield, especially the Dana Thomas House. I have already emailed Gov. Blajovich.
I support this petition. How horrible that our children and grandchildren will not be able to benefit from all the wonderful history that people have saved for us! We have been to a lot of these places! What a loss!!!
I support this petition. These state properties are owned and paid for by the taxpayers of Illinois. To take them away from the people and let these valuable properties deteriorate shows extremely poor management by the governor who wants to use this money for his own agenda. To provide security for these sites, especially the Dana-Thomas House, will probably cost the state and taxpayers more money than it would to leave them open. Theft and Vandalism will destroy them.
I've been to most of these sites repeatedly, several over the last 12 months. We ALWAYS take out-of-state house guests to Illinois historic sites. Keep our historic sites open! I fully support this petition!
I support this petition. I am an FLW buff, a grateful admirer of Lincoln, and also strongly interested in historic sites and museums in general. I've been looking forward to taking our sons, now 9 and 13, on a visit to Illinois to gain historic perspective on this significant state... but if these closings occur, what's the point? Surely IL will lose out on more tourist dollars than it will gain through these budget cuts.
I support this petition.I feel the historic sights are of great importance to our youth as well as all of us adults!! Where would Illinois be without all of our history readily available to our families! Save our HISTORICAL SIGHTS!! What are we to become without our history? What are we to leave to our children? Close down some of the casinos', leave our historical sights alone!!!
