I support this petition. Illinois history is central to American history, and it is an emblem of this governor's administration that such landmarks as the Dan Thomas House and the cabin where Lincoln's family homesteaded in Charleston will now be put on mothballs. What terrible stewards of the legacy of the great emancipator the Governor and his team have proven to be.
I support this petition.
I realize that when it comes to budgeting this may seem like an easy place to make cuts. Why not try doing like Gov. Palin and sell the jet and unnecessary items that the political society have so deemed necessary perks? Why should we see history lost and more Illinois workers (Americans) lose their jobs? Isn't the economy hurting enough?
This really is a travesty! People losing their jobs, lost revenue for the state, and for what? 3 million won't make a dent in the state's deficit...so what's the point of plundering our cultural history? It's like putting a band-aid on a wound that requires a tourniquet! I bet there's a few key salaries, that, if eliminated, would save the same amount of money. Why is it always art and culture that are sacrificed first in a budget crisis when they aren't the cause of the crisis in the first place? There has to be a better way! What a terrible loss to our state!
I support this petition. I teach school, and the Lincoln sites are our field trip for the year. I remember visiting them with my class when I was in school.
I support this petition. Lincoln Log Cabin was a valuable part of my childhood; it's closing alongside those of many other sites and parks around the country would be a disaster for the state's cultural and historical heritage.
I support this petition. I'm in the 99th House district, the 50th Senate district and the 18th Congressional district, and I vote in gubernatorial elections.
I support this petition. Do not let our historical heritage along with our parks and natural resources decay. People come to Illinois to see these sites. What is our govenor thinking?
As a proud, lifelong resident of Illinois I find this move by our governor, to be political in nature and absolutely STUPID. This is our heritage, not to mention a tremendous tourist draw. HOW STUPID!! Whether this proposal comes to fruition or not, I will not forget it's instigator. Leif R. Hendricksen, 15022 South Bartlett Avenue, Plainfield Illinois, 60544.
I whole-heartedly support this petition!!!!!!!!
This is ridiculous- how could the governor be SO STUPID as to shut down sites that educate school children, state citizens, and national and international visitors?!?! Does he not care about the entire state's future AT ALL??? He pushed and pushed state sites to prepare for the Lincoln bi-centennial, and now it was apparently all for nothing. How did he even get elected, and how did this even get this far?!
I support this petition. I continue to be appalled at the lack of sense and responsibility the current Governor shows for this state. First our parks and natural resources suffer; now our historical heritage. I urge you, DON'T let this happen. Do not let the historical landmarks of this state to decay.
