These cuts will devastate Illinois tourism--one of the few potential revenue bright spots of the state, compared to lottery and gambling. Worse, it sends the wrong message to our children...that we don't value the history of our state and that keeping the state income tax unreasonably low is more important to us than educating the next generation!
How can we continue to appreciate Illinois' history and teach kids about our roots if we cut this budget. So much hard work down the drain! This is an important part of our state, please reconsider cutting the budget.
I support this petition. The way to resolve the budget deficit is not to destroy our heritage or to put illinois citizens out of work. Please find another way.
I support this petition. The history of Illinois is a rich and varied tapestry. IHPA has an important mission to perform. There are far better ways to balance the budget - starting with increased efficiencies and elevated threshholds of performance. These cuts are signs of the State's inability to get its affairs in shape, and an insult to those public employees and elected officials who are doing a fine job (few in number that they may be).
I support this petition largely because I know the importance of keeping historical facts, structures and artifacts available for the publics viewing and education. We learn nothing if we are censured with closure.
