Keeping our historical and World Heritage locations operating is essential. Otherwise, PLEASE CONSIDER ASKING THE CONGRESS TO ADOPT CAHOKIA MOUNDS, FORT CHARTRES AND THE LINCOLN SITES SO THEY CAN BE TREATED PROPERLY.

I encourage Governor Blagovich and state legislators to recognize the educational importance of Illinois' state historic sites and the negative impact the closures will have on school children across the state. The closures will also have a detrimental effect on Illinois' sluggish ecomony, as "fuel" will be removed from the state's powerful tourism engine.
#3122

Genia Hesser said 09/11/08, 11:10 am (verified)
I support this petition. It is shortsighted of Illinois legislators to igonore the significant economic impact that Heritge Tourism brings to small communities and thereby the state as a whole. During the Lincoln Bicentennial these ignorant politicians are irreparbly harming their constituents who depend on tourits for their livlihood, not-to-mention thumbing their noses at the federal and national efforts made and money committed to make the Lincoln bicentennial an event of historic significance. I wish I could say I was surprised.
