There is NO DOUBT that the State is very short on funds, but we are the stewards of our history and prehistory. Keeping our historical and World Heritage locations operating is essential.
Otherwise, PLEASE CONSIDER ASKING THE CONGRESS TO ADOPT CAHOKIA MOUNDS, FORT CHARTRES AND THE LINCOLN SITES SO THEY CAN BE TREATED PROPERLY.
I support this petition. I visited many of these places as a child, and have taken my son to them in recent years.. It would be devastating to take away our history in Illinois.
I support this petition. The maintenance, preservation, and interpretation of our historic sites by trained professionals is essential to telling our national and state history. We owe it to the future.
I support this petition. Closing historic sites is anti-intellectual and threatens to label Illinois as a "podunk" state. These closures represent a failure of our state government.
I encourage Governor Blagovich and state legislators to recognize the educational importance of Illinois' state historic sites and the negative impact the closures will have on school children across the state. The closures will also have a detrimental effect on Illinois' sluggish ecomony, as "fuel" will be removed from the state's powerful tourism engine.
I support this petition. It is shortsighted of Illinois legislators to igonore the significant economic impact that Heritge Tourism brings to small communities and thereby the state as a whole. During the Lincoln Bicentennial these ignorant politicians are irreparbly harming their constituents who depend on tourits for their livlihood, not-to-mention thumbing their noses at the federal and national efforts made and money committed to make the Lincoln bicentennial an event of historic significance. I wish I could say I was surprised.
I support this petition. The nation will be celebrating the anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth in 2009, but people will be unable to visit the sites important to his story and the story of the state he represented? This is a disgrace. I wholeheartedly support this petition.
As an alumna of EIU’s program in Historical Administration I have benefited immensely by the resources provided at an IHPA site. I support this petition.
