The purpose of this petition is to call for the repeal of Medicaid's exclusion of services provided in Institutions for Mental Diseases (IMD). This exclusion covers facilities whose primary goal is to provide diagnoisis, treatment or care for patients suffering from a mental illness. Adults between the ages of 22 and 64 are unable to withdraw matching funds from federal Medicaid to cover the cost of their care. The nature of this exclusion is discriminatory and prevents thousands of Americans from recieving desperately needed mental health care. We are calling on the United States Senate Special Committee on Aging to address the issues within the IMD exclusion and work towards a more acceptable solution.
