I am not from the countryside, nor do I hunt, but I am appalled that country folk are continually discriminated against and suffer further infringements of their freedom every time the government make a decision regarding the countryside. I love the countryside, and I recognise that it is those that live and work there that make it such a beautiful place to visit. Being allowed access to such beautiful areas instils in me a sense of gratitude. I simply cannot understand from where people derive the nerve to enjoy the countryside while openly discriminating against those who live there. I would not be happy if total strangers were allowed to walk across my back garden, but if they were, I would be downright outraged if they tried to tell me how to behave in it. I eat meat, and I wear leather, and I do not consider it less cruel for an animal to die in an abattoir than out in its own natural habitat. Indeed, how can town folk expect country folk, whose lives may be dedicated to the breeding of animals for the sole purpose of their eventual slaughter, to have the same views on animal rights as those of us who pick up our sanitised meat from a supermarket shelf wrapped in plastic? It is the very epitome of hypocrisy. They grow up to a different set of ideals to those of us not fortunate enough to be born to the countryside, and it is extremely arrogant to suggest that they are wrong, just because your views differ from theirs. You should leave room for the possibility that you are wrong, and that we have as much right to be a part of nature as all other creatures, rather than the mistaken belief that we preside over nature.
The hare population was increasing when hunting was allowed so where is the problem? People should be able to choose to hunt if they wish. Soon we will not be able to shoot or fish. I love my countryside and I love hunting! I'm totally fed up with the UK, I'm off to France, anyone want to come with me?
conservation relies on landowners having a vested interest in wildlife - no hares = no sport - Angela Smith; there are none so blind as those who cannot see!
