Westmeath Lakes as a public amenity are currently under treat. The council has banned Jet Skis in the region and now powerboats are next on the agenda to be banned. Currently powerboats are only used in Westmeath on the southern shore of Lough Derravarragh (1 lake). However a small minority of people have been petitioning hard to ban all pwerboats too from this lake leaving nowhere for people with an interest in waterskiing, wakeboarding or for familys to take their powerboats out for the day.

We believe that there are enough lakes in Westmeath and enough room that all watersports can be designated areas for the pursuit of an individuals water based past-times.
If you agree that Irish and Westmeath lakes and Irish Lakes for that matter should be free for powerboats, fishing, sailing and other past-times then please sign this petition.

IF POWERBOATS AND OTHER PAST-TIMES ARE BANNED OUR CHILDREN WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND THE ENJOYMENT THAT IRISH LAKES OFFER!

please sign...and I hope to see you on the lake someday for a sail or ski. : )

I think a complete ban on power boats, or anything else, is very detrimental to the health and prosperity of any region. I would not like to see power boats

There is enough room on Westmeath Lakes for all sections of the public to use...NOT just fishermen
