Been a groomer for the better part of 15 yrs, this is a pet peeve of mine with other groomers. Never, Never leave a dog unattended on a table with a noose on. Rest in Peace
Incompetent handlers should be held responsible for their actions, and if resulting in the death of a beloved pet then they should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
I am so sad and angry at this senseless loss. I think these "professional handlers' should be banned from all AKC events. They were responsible for the health and safety of this dog and they failed, miserably. The only message they will undersatnd is one that hits the bottom line. I hope AKC punishes them.
Only God and the principals involved know the truth. I don't know how AKC or even the individual clubs will be able to monitor/enforce any stipulations made about unattended dogs in grooming nooses. I have seen worse. Frankly, I am amazed when I walk around the showgrounds at what I observe. Many handlers have TOO MANY DOGS in their responsibility but claim they have to show so many in order to make a good living. This is NOT a hobby, it is a business and THAT is the ruination of it all.
I am sick of large scale breeders and such looking down their noses at hobby breeders as inferior. I showed Poodles but I learned the hard way. I never showed my Goldens as I did NOT want them to go through it. That "glory" was just NOT WORTH IT!!!
My heart goes out to Jag's owners. His handlers should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of criminal and civil law. Although I no longer show in conformation, having switched totally over to agility and other performance sports, I 100% support the "Jag Rule", but feel sorry that such unfeeling, negligent people, who apparently lack intelligence and common sense as well as compassion for their animals, have permeated the sport of dogs to cause such a rule to need to be written.
My sympaties to Jag's family. No dogs should EVER be left unattended ESPECIALLY while a loop is around their necks !!! What a sad ending for such a beautiful animal.
poodle people do this ALL the time. they do not want to MESS UP the hair.
I am beyond sorry for this dog.....
10-20 feet AWAY from the dog is too far away!
In Memory of Jag
Let this be a wake up call to the AKC in regard to "PROFESSIONAL HANDLERS". Not only should "The Jag Rule" be implemented, something should be done to better monitor the daily routines and care given to the dogs while with handlers. More stringent rules and guidelines should be set forth and followed before someone can be considered a "PROFESSIONAL HANDLER". While most professional handlers treat client's dogs better than they would their own, there are those "SELF APPOINTED PROFESSIONALS" that concern themselves only with their egos and wallets and don't really care about the dogs or clients at all. This unfortunate circumstance and unsuccessful cover-up has exposed the unethical way some handlers choose to conduct their business and attention should be given by the AKC concerning their actions.
People should not be so stupid...Especially those devoted to dogs. It is sad that jag died senslessly it is more sad that we need a "law " like this because people are not ethical and do not own up to their mistakes
This tragedy could have easily been prevented! No do should be left more than an arms lengh away. Even the best dogs can fall off tables. I don't care how trained they are. I feel the handlers should never be able to handle another dog again. The AKC should stand up for Jag before another dog has to die for no reason.
Unattended is more than arms distance away. This type of tragedy can happen so fast and some of our dogs are large and difficult to lift and save once the tragedy occurs and they slip off the table.
