I can't imagine that any reputable AKC members would not endorse this amendment whole-heartedly. My heartfelt sympathies to this angel dogs owners & friends.
We sincerely sympathize with your loss. Have spent 38 years going to dog shows and wondering how people left dogs on tables like this and got away with it!!! If people don't have sense enough not to do this, there should, indeed, be a rule that is strictly enforced. These people should never be allowed to show dogs again, let alone handle for anyone else. Not to mention the deceptive lie they told to cover their butts.
I to have seen such a site and hope for changes. Our dogs should not be left like this and the handlers should be brought to justice and should never be allowed to handle again.
I have friends who are professional handlers and I have never seen them leave a dog unattended on a table. I hope that such a rule would prevent those who are less diligent than my friends from being so careless.
My sympathies to the family for the loss of their wonderful golden, Jag and the pain they must have gone thru thinking there was a chance of finding him when it was already known by some that he had died. I know what it is like to send a golden off with a handler to achieve SDHF. It is my hope that this incident will never happen again. The Snyders should be held accountable and never be allowed to show dogs again.
It's a shame they have to make a rule about not leaving a dog in a dangerous position. I hope that there will be sanctions against the handlers, severe ones.
This should never had happened. I would ban the handler from ever showing. I don't think any dog should be left on the grooming table unless it is being groomed. What this person or persons did let this poor dog die a slow death by choking.
Why does it take a tragedy to make people more responsible. Too lie makes the whole thing worse.
My heart goes out to the owners and may Jag rest in peace.
That is horrible!
thats like rule nubmber one of grooming! YOU NEVER leave the dog alone on table noose on neck or not!..NEVER NEVER NEVER!.. and then she lied!..horrible.
RIP sweet dog.
This should have never happened, the handler should have known better, and plus, the other handlers around should have noticed something wasn't right. i used to grrom dogs for my local animal shelter, and my policy was to always have atleast one hand on a dog so you know what they are doing even when your back it turned. I hope the handler is punished very harshly!
Leaving a dog unattended on a table isn't the worst thing that is done to " client" dogs..but at least this may be a place to start
I am horrified to say the least! I can't believe anyone would do such a thing. We certainly do need stricter laws and the person or persons who did this should go to jail for a long time.
We've needed stricter safety laws for a long, long time. Not just at dog shows, but in grooming facilities and any other place where equipment is used that can endanger animals.
Everytime I go to a dogshow I cringe when I see someone has left a dog unattended on the grooming table. I cant believe it has taken this long for this to come to light. I will light a candle in honor of poor Jag. Alot of handlers seem to take their jobs unprofessionally. Its sad they are the ones who get most of the recognition in the ring. From what I have seen alot of them do not take care of their clients dogs nearly as well as they should. Or their clients think they do. Yes this is a sport/hobby and there is always a bad apple, but I would not lwet anyone touch my dog that didnt have the same views as me. Please be careful when you hire a "PROFESSIONAL " handler. Better yet, do it yourself and then you know how your beloved dog is being treated.
I can even think of how cruel and heartless these people are, and that they have been around dogs all this time ~ they need to be jailed and if ever they get out banned from being with 100 ft of a dog and never to own a living thing again.
For over 15 years, I owned a grooming shop (and groomed there). Posts were not allowed to be used in my shop for this very reason: A moment's inattention, and tragedy can occur. It has ALWAYS astonished me to see dogs attatched to posts and left unattended in the grooming areas at shows. I am actually surprised that this incident is rare. I hope that this serves as a wake up call for all. The practice is undenyably irresponsible in the extreme.
I was shocked to hear about this. I am so sorry for everyone who knew and loved Jag. I think show chairs and committee members should also feel enpowered to do something about this if they see it at thier shows!
What an obvious case of gross negligence.
when giving your dog to professional handlers, you hope that they will take every care.
Not so in this case.
My condolences to Jags owners and the handlers should be banned for life.
I handle for other people and all dogs are treated the same as mine
My deepest sympathies on the loss of your beloved Jag. It's unconscionable Jag was left unattended on a grooming table. It is common sense that any person would never leave an animal unsupervised on a grooming table. That "professional s" (who should know via training and experience) did such a thing is reprehensible.
