This sad story is so wrong on so many levels. No-one should EVER leave a dog unattended in such a dangerous manner and to deliberately lie to the owner is unforgivable. Why doesn't the witness come forward? Or have they? I hope so. This noosing should be stopped at shows unless someone is present. Poor Jag.
This is by and far one of the most horrific show incidents that I have had the unfortunate experience of reading. If we do not hold those we entrust the care of our show dogs to...then who is held accountable?
In the final analysis we, as humans, suffer the great emotional strain of the such an incident that has happened with Zag. For the canines they pay with their lives! I incourage anyone, envolved with Zag's case, to REMEMBER Zag's fate! Do not let those responsible for his hideous death go unpunished just because they are human's and Zag was a canine! In the end, " we are entrusted to care for ALL of God's little creatures great or small!" We, as humans, can NOT escape under the gise that we are, after all, 'only human and therfore capable of making mistakes!" NOT when that mistake results in the DEATH of that which we have been entrusted to care for most of all!
Any person with a brain knows that an animal is unpredictable. Why did they think Jag was so safe unattended? Bar them for life!!!
As a groomer, I NEVER trust a pet not to " fall" off the table, but stay with it, or remove from the table to a safe area> This is common sense unless you don't care about the animal!
A hot fire and a slow turning spit come to mind.
The AKC needs to take serious action against careless handlers. If people are entrusting their dogs to so-called professionals, they shouldn't be leaving dogs strung up on a grooming table while they're in the ring.
These handlers should never be allowed to show other people's dogs ever again.
For all those who went before him under similar circumstances. Professional handlers, I thnk not. Responsible, reliable not even close. A disgrace to the dog world!
Heartfelt sympathies to Jag's family.....I hope the Snyder's are made to pay for the pain & suffering they caused Jag's owners!
This is inexcusable carelessness on the part of the handler or groomer. It's sad that a rule has to be made to enforce common sense but if that's what it takes.. enact it. As for the responsible party, they should be banned from any and all AKC events permanently.
It is a shame something like this had to happen to make people open their eyes that one can not leave a dog on a grooming table by themselves. Why would you??? The handler should have been there. Too lie only compounded the tragedy even more.
Professional handlers?? Whew..I think not. NO dog should be left unattended on a grooming table. Audra and Denny Synder should definitely be banned from handling ANY other dogs in ANY show arena..for life. Very sad the dog lost his life because of their apathy and neglect. Worse still is that they lied about the whole thing for so long. Awful...Not any dog handlers I would want handling my dogs at a show or anywhere else for that matter. AKC needs to implement stricter rules regarding leaving dogs unattended. Where were they when all this took place?? Aren't there any AKC reps watching??
Showing Dogs is supposed to be a family sport, not paid professionals.
Take care of you your own dogs, as they have feelings too, and big hearts. They are to be loved, not exploited.
Since the notification about Jag's disappearance I've scanned my digests everyday, too. I’ve prayed and hoped for good news of Jag being found and reunited with his owner and his breeder. When I checked my e-mails tonight I cried as I read the owners' petition and can't imagine the horror they've been living with all these weeks. I’m so moved by the turn of events, I am signing this petition, and I'm writing a National trophy donation check in Jag’s honor (great idea John S). I hope Janis and Teddy, and all involved in the search effort can find some peace in moving forward with this action to find justice for their beautiful dog. God speed Jag, Janice, and Teddy.
I am a veterinarian, and I see people leave dogs unattended on a table all the time. not much unnerves me more, because sooner or later they all jump! This is a worthy petition!.TH
Disgraceful act...Dogs should not be left unattended..carelessact. Accidents do happen but to cover up with lies and lead the owners on for months is horrible.
No dog should EVER be left with a grooming noose around his/her neck unless being groomed and a responsible person is right there by the grooming table at ALL times!
This happens all the time at dog shows. It's standard practice, and it will cost handlers lots of money to end it. There will be a fight.
I wonder why someone in the grooming area didn't come to this dog's aid as it slipped off the table. I've also approached owners of dogs left in hot cars at summer shows. Instead of being grateful for the warning about heat stroke, they were mad at me. These are dog people? You would think that TRUE dog lovers and those in the sport of dog showing would be even MORE tuned in to the care and needs of dogs. Disgraceful!!!!
I worked as a groomer and I saw many things happening, because of carelesness of groomers. Broken bones, nasty cuts, etc. I find those people should get a hefty punishment. We are given the responsibility of caring for the animals as long as they are with us (grooming, showing, handling, etc). We need to show the greatest of care and responsibility!!!!!!
