It makes me sick when I see handlers leaving dogs on the table. Hopefully this situation will bring light onto this careless act. My deepest condolences to Jag's owners, I hope you get the justice you deserve!

This is sad that Jag had to pay with his life. What is worse, the " Pro" handlers lied about it. Sorry they should be banned for life and never be able to handle dogs professionally again.
I am very sorry for your loss and can only hope that the handlers are held accountable for this cruel neglect! Please adopt Jag's Rule in his memory.
Very sorry for your loss of Jag. Leaving an animal unattended in a grooming noose on a table is extremely irresponsible. Leaving an animal unattended on a table even without a nosse is irresponsible, whether you are a pro handler or a breeder/owner/handler.If a dog can not be supervised at all times while on a table, it should be crated for its own safety. Accidents happen when we stop being vigilant and applying common sense. But, what is most disturbing is the fact the handlers may have lied about the incident. In addition to any AKC fines, valuation of the dog (priceless) they should be expected to cover any and all expenses associated with searching for a dog that was never really lost if the case is proven. It is also disturbing that any witness to this incident may not have bothered to report it to the show committee or AKC rep. Best of luck in getting to the bottom of this.
The Jag Rule is a way we all can honor Jag's memory.
The dangers of leaving any dog unattended and noosed on a grooming table are well known. There is NO excuse for Jag's death. He did NOT have to die this way. If not for the handlers' negligence, Jag would be alive today and home with Janis.
I suggest outlawing grooming table nooses completely. This is only for the handlers convenience. I groom my dogs with no noose, and they stand just fine. If a handler can't train their dog to stand, then they shouldn't be handling dogs.
Any responsible human being knows never to leave any animal unattended, especially if the animal is tied. There should be strict punishment for those that do not comply.
This is a dangerous and lazy practice that should be forbidden. I would like to see a rule against leaving unattended dogs in nooses on grooming tables.
This " Jag Rule" is a wonderful way to honor Jag's memory and his owners are very special people to look past their own pain to help prevent this tragedy from happening to others. They are truly angels!
As a grromer myself, I know the dangers of leaving any dog unattended on a grooming table.
There is just no excuse for Jag's death and those responsible should be held accountable, not only for the death, but for the lies told to everyone involved. Kudos to those who stepped up to tell the truth!
This is clearly a case of negligence. All us exhibitors should be vigilant and take action of both reporting and standing guard over the hapless animals. Act people!!
This story breaks my heart. There is no excuse for leaving a dog unattended on a grooming table. AKC should pass this rule regardless of the of the number of signatures on this petition.
One would think common sense would prevail and no one would need to be told not to leave a dog unattended with a rope around his/her neck. My condolences to Jag's family.
My heart aches for Jag's owners and all others who loved and admired him. If I have learned anything in my years of dog exhibiting it is that, more often than not, to some professional handlers and to some owners as well, EGO is the motivating factor for most of them. There are those who are very responsible, however, it is a sad commentary about what is supposed to be a " sport." Should all facts be borne out concerning this incident, these " handlers" should never be permitted in the show ring again!
In memory & honor of Jag. I hope that AKC will pass this rule quickly! This senseless and needless tragedy could have been avoided. Never leave a dog unattended at a show much less on a grooming table!
My condolences to the Jag's family. I hope they win their case. No dog should be left unattended on a grooming table. A very sad lack of responsibility
" No reasonable person, let alone dog-lover, would leave a dog UNATTENDED in that situation. I also don't believe a " show" dog, who is used to constant, consistant grooming and attention would NEED the noose table that was reported in the legal issues as the instrument of death."
i work as a groomers assistant and we get some retired show dogs and they can be pretty difficult on the table! also being a groomers assistant i know how shady and nasty some groomers can be (not where i work now mind you. if they were mean there i wouldn't be there trust me!) one of my moms dogs " accidentaly" fell of the groomers table awhile back cause " she went to answer the phone" the groomer told us this when we went to pick him up in case he needed to go to the vet she would pay for it. so yes " so called animal lovers" will leave a dog unattended on the table. they are irresponsible. however knowing what i know now i bet that groomer hung him off the table on purpose and since his neck is bigger than his head he slipped out of the noose and landed on the floor. ever since then he can not be groomed unlease under anesthesia, he gets real mean and nasty and bites. yes folks, there are some evil nasty mean groomers that will slide your dog off the table if it isn't behaving properly to teach it a lesson and to " learn" to sit still for grooming.
How many times I've seen unattended dogs on a grooming table & wondered if a handler or loved one would come back & find them hanging there. I would NEVER leave an unattended dog like that. Unfortunately, some of these handlers do not care about anything except the money lining their pockets. I truly hope that AKC listens & does something about this. Also that anyone at shows sees unattended dogs on table would report it to the AKC rep. My heart goes out to Jag's family. My Deepest Sympathy.
I saw the pictures of Jag. The story of the grooming table and the hanging doesn't have the " ring of truth" in my (reporter/editor) ears. I believe he was sold (probably for a great deal of money) and the " hanging" story is a cover-up.
No reasonable person, let alone dog-lover, would leave a dog UNATTENDED in that situation. I also don't believe a " show" dog, who is used to constant, consistant grooming and attention would NEED the noose table that was reported in the legal issues as the instrument of death.
NONE of MY goldens are of show calibur, bur show them their brush, and they freeze where they are (sometimes in mid-air!!) in order to get the grooming and attention they want, need, and deserve.
I also believe a reasonable " show mom" would be aware of the dangers - even I would make sure the noose had enough slack to reach the floor, and then some!
Of course, MY goldens are NEVER in danger of TOO MUCH grooming!!
Nope, the story of the " grooming table gallows" just doesn't wash. I'd have to watch bank records and " lifestyle" changes of those charged in the neglegence. In short, FOLLOW THE MONEY.
I believe Jag is alive and well living under an " assumed name" and will appear in shows somewhere in the country with false documents and " fake IDs" - maybe even a fake passport if he was taken to Europe for shows there.
I think Jag left the building on paw-power. As for Elvis, HE'S dead!

I was a Prof Handler
for many years, and
I always took more
precaution with the
clients' animals than perhaps I did with my own. It is
a huge responsibility to be
a Handler - professional or just
a friend who takes a
dog to show which is not your own. Hopefully the " real truth" will come out.
In memory and honor of Jag. I hope this rule can go into effect. This is a senseless and needless tragedy that can be avoided. May Jag's death not be in vain.
Handlers would be chastened for having a dirty setup, yet leaving dogs in danger alone on a grooming table is allowed? Unfortunately greed and indifference killed Jag - too many dogs for the handler to properly monitor, then a scheming coverup. How sad for the owner, the dog, and those who worked to 'find' him. At the very least, breakaway clips should be mandatory - at best, NO unattended dogs at events, ever.
Our dogs are our children. Dogs are totally innocent and dependent upon us to care for them properly. I am so saddened by this wonderful Golden's needless death. I hope these handlers are prosecuted to the full extent of the law and stripped of their privilege to show at any AKC event.
Your dog is as precious as your own child. Just as you would not leave your young child unattended, you should not leave your dog unattended in potentially harmful situations.
It's a sad commentary that such a rule should be needed. How anyone could leave a dog unattended on a table with a noose around it's neck boggles the mind. What has happened to common sense?
