I am truly sorry. This action was totally inexcusable and thoughtless. The handler should never be allowed to make this mistake again. Again, my deepest sympathy to Jag's owners.
Tt is a sad day in dog showing when a professional handler who you entrust your dog with has to lie about what happened to your dog. Although this is a tragedy, I as an exhibitor of my own dogs would feel better if the truth would of been told. Furthermore what about all the people who saw this dog hanging. Two people finally came foward who witnessed this tragedy. No one went to the rep at the show. How unfortunate for the dog, his owners & dog showing in general.
I rescued a GR. I wish I would have rescued Jag in time. OMG, penalize the handlers. Consequences from canine neglect and abuse should be the same as it is a crime to children and adults. How can people be so ignorant and insensitive?!?
when one considers the losing of a loved pet from all angles what could be worse than losing it from negligence and dishonesty? I say let the memory of Jag and his spirit send a message, long, loud and clear.
I cannot see how someone who is so involved with so many dogs could be so cavalier with something so potentially deadly. I hope they are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and BEYOND!!
It's such a shame a great dog was lost like this. I hope people learn from Jag, never leave your dogs unattended on tables or expens. I always have someone watching my guys at the shows even in the crates.
In my many years of showing dogs I've seen a number of them jump off a table and injure themselves, including a Golden who pulled the grooming table on top of itself and then dragged it across the floor in a blind panic. Never, never leave a dog on a grooming table unattended even for a minute.
My prayers to the family. I can only imagine how you feel. The penalty should be as extreme as the crime.I hope they are never alwed to touch another dog.
I think it's sad that if someone murdered my dog out of malice, I would barely have any grounds to take legal action, yet if someone murdered my human child, they would get life in prison. Why is it so easy for some sick people to put so little stock in the lives of other beings.
It is unconscionable that anyone who claims to love dogs should be so irresponsible. To maintain a lie while the owners searched for weeks makes the handlers' crime 100 times worse. They should never be allowed to handle another dog for any reason!
Oh my god. For such a beautiful furbaby to suffer at the hands of that pig. Made me cry to read what happened to Jag. This so called handler should be banned from all competition. Nationally and internationally.
Professional handlers are not the only ones guilty of this stupid and uncaring behavior. There should be more awareness of the consequences of accidents with grooming nooses!
It's difficult for me to believe that people are so evil and have no conscience when animals are put in their care. They should be banned from handling or owning dogs so this will not happen again.
I can't believe that this is happening to these poor helpless animals. It should be a new standard that an animal cruelty officer is at every show from now on if the handlers can't be trusted with these animals.
Anyone who witnesses this irresponsible act should do two things: #1 Call the authorities and #2 Release the dog and put it in a safe place. If their little foo-foo hairdo is mussed, too bad! We have a responsibility as well. Walking away, doing nothing makes us as responsible as the person who left them in the first place.
Ten to 20 ft is way too far a distance to stand away from a dog with a noose around it's neck. I'm sure these handlers are not the first to walk away from a grooming table...and unless AKC penalizes the action they will not be the last. Shame on the "professional" handlers for not fessing up right away. If AKC does not step up to the plate here (or at least each local club) maybe this tragedy will encourage all handlers to review their personal procedures.
This is so common to see dogs unattended on grooming tables. It needs to stop!!! Why does it take a dogs death to end this practice. It needs to be addressed by the AKC. A fine and suspension needs to be put into place.
It is with a heavy heart that something like this could happen. My deepest sympathy's to Jag's family. He was entrusted to these people. He should never have been left alone. Then to lie about it. They should not be handling dogs if that is how they treat them and then not take responsibility for their actions.
This is a very tragic situation.
A dog should never be left on a grooming table unattended. I have seen this happen at shows. Please do not allow another dog to die this way. My deepest sympathy to Jag's owners
The AKC needs to crack down on irresponsible people like these. The people should prosecuted & fined to the fullest extend of the law. They should never be able to show, handle, or train dogs again.
