I am a handler and belive me leaving an unattended dog on a grooming is something that you just don't do. I have had to put dogs ready to go into the ring back into crates and redu the coat rather than leave them on a table.
My heart goes out to the owners of this beautiful and noble dog.
What an unfortunate outcome. All too often we take things for granted. Nonetheless, they are still animals with wants and needs. I'm so sorry for your loss!
so sorry to hear about this- unfortunatley, "handlers" leave dogs unattended all to often, and no one ever does anything about it. I sincerely hope this petition is a start in a better direction for the sake of our dogs.
I am so sorry for your loss. I felt as if I'd been punched in the stomach when I read this. I can't come close to imagining how you must feel.
I don't want to resort to cliches, and words can sound so lame. Just know you're in our prayers.
I think it is a crock to say that the AKC doesn't have time to check every table. Why not? How many more animals (dogs) does this have to happen to until the AKC wakes up? Thats the american way isn't it? Pass the buck.. the AKC doesn't have time... why? what are they doing that they can't take a few minutes to check out these dogs and make sure that they are taken care of? Wake up and take care of these animals !!!!! They are known as man's best friend lets start acting like it and take care of them !!!
1.There usually is a AKC Rep at most shows.Go tell them.
2. The Akc dosen't have time to police every dog sitting on the tables.
3. Owners need to know how their dog is going to be taken care of before they hire a handler.
This is why there are groups such as PHA, DHG, AKC reg. handlers. Take your concerns to someone governing these people and let them take action. Know who you handler is! I am a PHA member and I personally do not take more dogs than I care handle myself.
What a horrible story....these people shouldn't be able to handle any dogs period. Their conduct was totally unprofessional and with total disregard for the safety of their client's dog. Their conduct should be dealt with accordingly.
I am a caretaker for 13 show dogs. The owners of these dogs don't hire people they dont know. I dont love my job for the money - I simply love all Gods creatures and believe in treating all with dignity and respect. The way these "handlers" handled this is just wrong. There is nothing worse than searching for a missing loved one only to find death at the end of the trail. It makes me sick!
I have heard of this before, and have seen some handlers being very cruel to the dogs, so Please BEWARE when hiring a handler...This is a Tragedy and I am heartsick over it.
Never leave a dog alone on anything with a leash on. I have heard of this before, a handler should know better. Then to lie.. I don't know what to say!!!
Death from neglect is truly the most tragic. Goldens live to please - that dog would have gone to the ends of the earth for it's people, and look what he was given in return. This whole incident is a crying shame.
I can't believe *dog lovers* did this! In addition to jail time, fines etc - they should be banned from EVER being near/owning a dog for the rest of their lives! Totally disgusting!!
I wish all clients would stay on the show grounds and watch the handlers before, during and after the show...
Most handlers treat the dogs as their own..
But some handlers are not very nice.
I hope Jag's death will not be pushed under the rug!
All handlers should carry insurance also. Jag is gone and nothing can make the owners feel better,,,BUT they should be definitely financially compensated. How much ???Minimum $5000..IMO..Prob. can't expect much more...the courts don't give much for dogs ..BUT ...It'a start.AND...not having the GUTS to tell the truth ??? Bad enough they're negligent...but they have no character also...I think those types are called cowards...with no compassion. CREEPS !
