This is what happens when people do not use common sense. No animal should be left unattended on a grooming table. I myself have a golden & can't imagine what the owners of Jag must be feeling. He and his family are forever in my prayers.
What! No more chasing GSDs hauling a grooming table down the aisles at 90 mph?
Glad this is being done but feel bad because people who SHOULD be more concerned about the animals in their care AREN'T. suzanne
I am so sorry for the loss of your dog- That never should have happened- i have a miniature apricot poodle that thinks she is human and is a sweet dog and i know you loved yours- the groomer never should have done that and i also hate the runners in the yard- so glad i have a little fence to let Goldie out into- or would be walking out with her- again i am so very sorry- carolyne
I am so very sorry for your loss. It was only a matter of time that this sort of thing happened. I have seen dogs left unattended too often at shows. This must stop.
What would make them leave this poor dog on the grooming table, while unattended. This handler should be held responsible and charged with animal cruelty. I am so sorry this happened.
I see dogs on tables all the time left unattended. I groomed for a living and I would have to say that a dog the size of a Golden Retriever would have to have been unattended for a long time to have been found dead. That is horrible. The owners were trusting their pet to the handler to be responsible for their precious cargo.
When we trust a pet to a handler, kennel, sitter, dog walker, whatever, we are giving an awesome responsibility. Anyone we entrust with our pets needs to act responsibly and accept responsibility if an incident occurs. This was my biggest fear and part of why I did not use a handler with my show dog.
This is such a tragedy! I recently happened upon a dog trying to "escape" from the local "PAWS" by climbing the fence only to be hung by the collar and short chain. Thank God we were able to get there in time to keep that from happening. I can't imagine what poor Jag's family is going thru. God Bless!!
You'd think plain old "common sense" would have been in the handler's minds. I wonder, was there not anyone in the close vicinity to come to Jag's rescue?? It is totally unforgivable of those handlers. They should never be allowed to work with animals ever again.
Unconditional love is what our dogs give us. We should ensure their safety. This is absolutely DEPLORABLE behavior to leave a dog unattended like this.
Both families will be in my prayers. I am sorry for Jag and his family. This will never be forgotten. I am also sorry for the Synder family. Sometimes the choices we make seem unforgivable.
God Bless
Poor defenseless Jag. The deceit of the groomer/handler is unconscienable. Had not the owners pursued an investigation about their missing Jag, the truth would not have been known.
I have seen far too many dogs left unattended under these and similar conditions. No matter how well a dog is trained ( or you think it is trained, nothing is ever "for sure". This is so sad.
I'm stunned that the Jag Rule does not already exist. It should be passed ASAP! The term "noose" says it all. Would you leave a toddler on a table with a noose around his neck?
Not only should these handlers be banned from ALL aspects of AKC showing, and handling, but criminal neglect charges should be brought at the least.
Professional Handlers should be held liable for all animals in their care just as any other profession would be.
The story of Jag made me cry. That such a horrendous thing should happen to such a beautiful animal (I, too, used to own a Golden Retriever, and I never in my life came across such a gentle nature), that this should happen at the hands of people who should know better is criminal! I absolutely agree to sign your petition.
Every dog left unattended on a grooming table at a dog show should be REPORTED ASAP to the AKC Rep. This careless behavior should NOT go without a fine, penalty, punishment, etc.
