Invisible Children has launched its “Mission to the Moon” in order to get President Obama to commit the United States to lead an international effort to arrest Joseph Kony and to commit to the recovery and rehabilitation of LRA affected communities. So far the mission is succeeding brilliantly.

Thousands of students and young people are rallying together to get their friends, family, and random people on the street to help end Africa’s longest running war. We are those young people, the people who host screenings, the people who sit on office floors and sift through thousands of pieces of paper, the people who do the small calculations that are meaningless until added to the larger picture.

We have detected a small error in the calculus that may prevent us from reaching the moon. Those above us likely know it exists, but, because they are so invested, have neither the time nor the desire to acknowledge it. What can we do? We are racing against time. Everyday, the clock is ticking closer to zero, and our time to be heard is diminishing.

This is our race against time!

In our quest to bring peace to northern Uganda, we are only being presented two options.

1. Do nothing and allow Joseph Kony to abduct children and terrorize civilians while the Ugandan government uses blunt force against the LRA resulting in the death of many child soldiers.

2. Advocate for a multilateral military intervention led by the United States that will apprehend Joseph Kony while minimizing the number of child soldiers being killed.

Both of these options fall well within the realm of how the United States and other Western countries have acted towards Africa in the past. They are not innovative, they are not new, and most importantly they belong to us, not to the people of northern Uganda, and the people of northern Uganda are well aware of these facts.

The fact that we are not breaking away from the failed traditions of the past is the flaw in “Our Mission to the Moon”, and it is what we are racing against time to fix.

What we need is a real third option.

A real third option must address the threat posed by Joseph Kony and result in the rescue of his child soldiers. The option will have to rely on technology and ingenuity. It will likely be something that has never been tried before, and that will set a powerful precedent for nonviolent solutions to conflicts in the future.

Our options now look like this:

1. Do nothing and allow Joseph Kony to abduct children and terrorize civilians while the Ugandan government uses blunt force against the LRA resulting in the death of many child soldiers.

2. Advocate for a multilateral military intervention led by the United States that will apprehend Joseph Kony while minimizing the number of child soldiers being killed.

3. Eliminate the threat posed by Joseph Kony and free the child soldiers through a nonviolent strategy that harnesses the power of technology and the innovative capacity of the human imagination to end a war without a gun.

Sign this petition to persuade Jason, Laren, and Bobby, the leaders of Invisible Children, to include a real third option in \"Our Mission to the Moon\" and to get a nonviolent clause added in to the LRA Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act of 2009.

We are in a race against time, but its not too late. The road we need to travel has already been traced for us. We know that we need to open our ears and our hearts in order to to let \"the needs of the needy become the desires of friends\". By doing this, we will stand in solidarity with the people of northern Uganda in our quest to end a war without a gun.
