We, the undersigned, request that Joe Meek be posthumously indicted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Joe Meek was Britain's first independent music producer of note. His influence on the emerging British Invasion cannot be overemphasized. From a converted suite above a leather goods shop, he pioneered recording techniques which are still applied today. From 1960 to his untimely death in 1967 he recorded a veritable Who's Who of British music, including a then-unknown singer named Tom Jones. Also a songwriter of considerable ability, Meek composed Telstar, the first British rock hit to conquer the #1 position in the US pop charts, and one of the most frequently covered songs of all time. Meek also composed and recorded the first concept album, "I Hear A New World," now recognized as a minor classic. He is further credited with producing the first Freakbeat recording. He released an impressive 245 singles during his prolific career. Meek's life ended by suicide on February 3, 1967, the anniversary of the death of his idol, Buddy Holly.
