I am petitioning to keep John Raymond McGee behind bars. He is currently serving a 3-10 year sentence for nearly killing his 9 week old daughter. John will be eligible for parole in February of 2007 and the paperwork has already started. As a family member of the victim I am making my best effort to stop him from getting paroled.

Please join this effort and sign the petition to keep him behind bars.

In March of 2003 John Raymond McGee shook his 9 week old daughter in a moment of anger. Amy suffered fractured ribs, a broken leg, a broken arm, spinal injuries and a brain hemmorage causing traumatic brain injury. She was taken to the hospital by her mother after she witness the baby having a seizure. It is then that they realized Amy had been violently shaken. Amy was placed on life support at a childrens hospital and was not given much hope for survival. If she survived, she'd be a vegetable at most.

Despite being given that label Amy came home from the hospital and has been progressing slowly but surely since that time. Three years has past since this incident and still Amy's struggles are endless. She is blind, cannot walk, cannot sit by herself unassisted, cannot feed herself without assistance, still drinks from a bottle, has stiffness and limited use of her right limbs. She is severly retarded and has a limited vocabulary.

John was charged with aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and conspiracy to commit endangerment. He was alone with the victim caring for her while her mother was at work. There was about 1 week between the date they believe she was injured and when she had her seizure, it left a window of opportunity for other suspects, so the DA offered a plea bargain to John McGee rather than take him to trial. He plead guilty to endangering the welfare of a child. His sentence was 3-10 years. Had he gone to trial and been convicted, he'd be serving nearly 54 years. John got off easy while his victim is still struggling.

Why should John McGee be permitted to go free and walk the streets of his community when he stole his victims ability to walk. Why should John McGee be permitted to enjoy the beauties of this world when he stole his victims eyesight. John McGee has stolen a normal life from a beautiful precious child. Why should he be permitted to go free? He shouldn't. He should be kept in jail to help protect other innocent children from his harmful hands. John has a violent past. He has been jailed previously for assault. If permitted to go free, he will again return to his abusive and addictive ways. He is an alcoholic and drug abuser. He will hurt another child if given the opportunity to be free.

Please sign this petition and make a difference toward stopping child abuse.

I think that he should stay behind bars because he tried to kill her and 10 years is not nearly long enough for shaking a tiny defenseless baby

I think he should have served his whole life in prison because he ruined another's whole life. She'll have to live with this every day, and John should too.

I support this petition but I think you are looking at the wrong person. A good hard look at the DA that took the easy way out should also be held accountable and removed. Why not a petion to remove him and other DA's like him. With this type of DA in office who is to say this can't happen over and over again. Get tough with the people in office. Make them accountable !!!

Any adult that assaults an inocent child should be locked up for life. Why should he have an opportunity to cause harm again.

I support this petition because, as a mother of a shaken baby survivor, I see the prison that she lives in EVERY day of her life. These survivors will NEVER get to "get out"! I believe that justice will be served only if John Raymond McGee serves the full sentence given to him by law.

The person who killed our son by shaking him was sentenced five years ago. After much deliberation about the sentence, after considering that she was a 51 year old grandmother with no history of violence and apparent remorse for the death of our son, the judge sentenced her to 3-1/3 to 10 years. since that time, we have spoken dozens of times to groups of child care providers, students, doctors and nurses about the danger of shaking a child. last year, I spoke at the nationial AAP Leadership Forum and the Suregon General's Workshop on Child Maltreatment. After we've told what happened to our son, someone always asks the question. "What happened to her?" I'm thankful that our judge held her to account for the violation of a fundamental trust, a violation than cannot and should not ever be excused. I'm thankful that when people ask that question, I can say "she's still in jail." It means our society, at least in our case, thought that the sentence should send a message. A very clear, very simple message: no matter how frustrated or angry you are, when you are entrusted with the care of a child, you may never hurt that child without consequence. From all I know, John McGee does not deserve to be freed from the only consequence he has been forced to suffer. He should serve his full sentence. To do less sends the message that the injuries inflicted on Amy aren't that important. and it sends a message to anyone else who comes to be in McGee's circumstances that their responsibility is not that great, not that important. The decision to deny parole will send the opposite message to everyone who learns about Amy's story. When people ask "what happened to him?", it will make a difference.

Ten years is a light sentence for this crime, and Mr. McGee should serve every day.

John McGee should not be shown any leniency and should serve his full sentence. His 9 week old daughter didn't see a bit of leniency in his eyes as he attempted to shake the life out of her for simply doing what babies do, cry. He had the opportunity to make a choice, she didn't and now she will live the rest of her life suffering because of his "choices". Don't allow him to be released from prison one day sooner than his sentence that was handed down by our judicial system.

I believe that John Mcgee should stay behind bars because child abuse is a serious crime. He should feel lucky his sentence isn't longer.

John should serve the complete time for his sentence for this horrific crime. Amy will pay the price for his crime with the possibility of early release.
