Goal Progress:
I am petitioning to keep John Raymond McGee behind bars. He is currently serving a 3-10 year sentence for nearly killing his 9 week old daughter. John will be eligible for parole in February of 2007 and the paperwork has already started. As a family member of the victim I am making my best effort to stop him from getting paroled.
Please join this effort and sign the petition to keep him behind bars.
In March of 2003 John Raymond McGee shook his 9 week old daughter in a moment of anger. Amy suffered fractured ribs, a broken leg, a broken arm, spinal injuries and a brain hemmorage causing traumatic brain injury. She was taken to the hospital by her mother after she witness the baby having a seizure. It is then that they realized Amy had been violently shaken. Amy was placed on life support at a childrens hospital and was not given much hope for survival. If she survived, she'd be a vegetable at most.
Despite being given that label Amy came home from the hospital and has been progressing slowly but surely since that time. Three years has past since this incident and still Amy's struggles are endless. She is blind, cannot walk, cannot sit by herself unassisted, cannot feed herself without assistance, still drinks from a bottle, has stiffness and limited use of her right limbs. She is severly retarded and has a limited vocabulary.
John was charged with aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and conspiracy to commit endangerment. He was alone with the victim caring for her while her mother was at work. There was about 1 week between the date they believe she was injured and when she had her seizure, it left a window of opportunity for other suspects, so the DA offered a plea bargain to John McGee rather than take him to trial. He plead guilty to endangering the welfare of a child. His sentence was 3-10 years. Had he gone to trial and been convicted, he'd be serving nearly 54 years. John got off easy while his victim is still struggling.
Why should John McGee be permitted to go free and walk the streets of his community when he stole his victims ability to walk. Why should John McGee be permitted to enjoy the beauties of this world when he stole his victims eyesight. John McGee has stolen a normal life from a beautiful precious child. Why should he be permitted to go free? He shouldn't. He should be kept in jail to help protect other innocent children from his harmful hands. John has a violent past. He has been jailed previously for assault. If permitted to go free, he will again return to his abusive and addictive ways. He is an alcoholic and drug abuser. He will hurt another child if given the opportunity to be free.
Please sign this petition and make a difference toward stopping child abuse.
