Goal Progress:
Remember the good old days when you could flip through channels and not be bombarded with reality shows? I do, and I really miss it. Aren't there any good writers left in Hollywood? Well, the arrival of the reality TV era has given us the answer: probably not.
Sure, even back in the 90s, there were a few reality shows around. But we could avoid them, they were only on a few channels. Now they're everywhere.
What's the point to them, anyway? They're not even things that could possibly happen in real life usually. Yes, it's real people with real reactions, but it's still not realistic. I mean, how often is it that people get standed on an island? Or live with a bunch of strangers in a really big house? Not often, that's for sure.
There's also the 'contest' form of reality television. Once again, real people, real reactions, but competing for something. It's like a game show, only more dramatic. For example, American Idol and America's Next Top Model. Now, couldn't they just have the contest and not put it on TV? They could, but they just want to make more money this way. Unfortunately, it's working.
And so now, people with no real talent are really famous. Let's dissect American Idol for a second here. 'Let America decide between these singers to see which one really deserves to be a star.' It sounds okay, but not all of America is watching American Idol and voting for who they think should win. Why not just let people get famous the way they used to? Now, people who may not really have much talent are becoming famous.
And it's not that I really support all the other ways of getting famous, since getting famous because people think you're pretty or you have a lot of money is not acceptable.
Now, let's venture further into the stupidity of reality television. I admit, some reality tv is okay, but most of it is revolting. Some celebrities take advantage of this reality tv opportunity to get more money, or just to hog the spotlight. Why do you think Paris Hilton did The Simple Life? It's more than a bit annoying, really.
For all of you that are fed up with this reality television craze: please sign. It probably won't do much (if anything at all) but at least let me know that I have your support.
