Sir: The other day, I was listening to Kalan Porter music on my walkman, and someone said “Eww! You like Kalan Porter?” I replied with, “Yeah, and do you have a problem with that?” “Ya, umm…I do, he was the Canadian Idol, you know! Those people are so fake.” I am sick of people stereotyping Kalan Porter, just because he was the Canadian Idol.

At my school, whenever one of my classmates sees that I’ve got his CD, 219 Days, they say things like, “Kalan Porter, eww, he is such a GIRL!” They also say he is a horrible singer, and that Idols only lip-sync, because they have no talent. It is really starting to bother me. These people should learn to respect me, and other Kalan fans for what we like.

One of the “friends” I have at school hates him so much, that she draws stupid pictures of him being killed by more popular bands/artists. It is sickening to think that someone would do something like this, just because they don’t like them. Just because I don’t like bands/artists that she likes, doesn’t mean that I go around and bug her about it.

The other day, I was listening to one of the radio stations that they play on TV, and a lady called in to request Kalan, and they turned her away saying, “We don’t play Idol music.” That is just wrong, and I think it shouldn’t be allowed, because it’s a free country. If people want to hear a certain song, then we should let them hear it. Kalan does not suck, I’ve seen him perform live, and he is one of the best male artists I’ve ever heard.

I think that if these certain people just gave him a chance, they may actually like his music too. So, people, stop stereotyping him as the Idol and the fake, that he’s not and start respecting him as the great, talented singer he is. I would like to thank certain Kalan Porter fans for inspiring me to write this letter.
