On Saturday, July 25, 2009 parents around Houston received letters informing them that if they reside within 2 miles of the school their children attend, they will now be responsible for transportation to and from school because funding for these students was cut. Most parents have job which prevent them from being able to provide safe transportation at these times leaving only the option to allow their children to walk to school. Asking parents to jeopardize their jobs in order to ensure that their children get to and from school safely is unacceptable! We entrust these people with our childrens safety and education and they are willing to abuse that trust because of lack of funding! Just within this 2 mile limit (in my neighborhood), there are 39 registered sex offenders; 9 of which have been convicted of sexual offensees against children. The school district has a moral obligation to assist parents in the safety and education of our children, and I need everyones signature and support in order to ensure that they uphold their obligations and do what is right!
