It is history for us to chant this. Just because it is an old saying, and maybe not as PC as some would like. So what! They are not Alabama fans so of course they don't like it.
Rammer Jammer is Alabama Tradition. Traditions are good and necessary things. Other teams sing it back to us when they win so what's the big deal about a football cheer? Give me a break.
This is how I think it should go. For most games keep it like it is....when we win, play it. In big and/or rivalry games....Auburn, Tennessee, LSU, FSU, Bowl Games, etc. the MDB should play it During the pregame to send a message to the crowd that it is on and you better be fired up. Can you imagine at the beginning of the UT game in B-D if the MDB broke out with '...we're gonna beat the hell outta you!' before the game? That would be the loudest environment ever.
It's a great cheer, but should only be used when we have a convincing lead/or have already won. Too many times have i heard it when we are a piddly 3 points up.I'd also say that it should be used only when we actually DO beat the hell out of someone. All that said. Keep the option of using this cheer forever.
My father was a preacher and very strict very conservative man. But let me tell you I have never heard a more passionate rendition of RJ in my life. I remember after the 1988 Tenn game my father was reciting the cheer among a group of friends, one of them asked.
