I support this petition. It is the pride of the People of Utica that have made the race the standout that it is. Take that away by removing the Utica name, and you will have just another road race.
I have run in 23 Utica Boilermakers so I want it to stay that way. OK - so I haven't really run any, but I still want it to remain The Utica Boliermaker. Why Mayor Roefaro doesn't care is pathetic.
I wholeheartedly support this petition. To remove the Utica reference in the race's name not only is unnecessary, but is in direct contrast to the individual who made the quotation the Utica OD listed in the article on this subject! Isn't Tim Reed involved with ECR International who owns 'Utica Boilers Inc.'....and don't they sell boilers to people in towns and cities other than Utica??? Will they also be changing the name of that business to simply 'Boilers. Inc.' because they "draw from Utica....draw from Rome....draw from the entire community" for their boiler sales?
I support this petition. The last statement on this page from Roefaro doesn't make sense. Who will know it's our Boilermaker if we lose the "Utica". Makes no sense at all. Runners from all over the country and world participate in this race, the name "Utica" didn't stop them from coming here. Take pride in our City! Don't hide it's name.
I support this petition. How sad. This Boilermaker race in fact is IN UTICA it is held in UTICA... not Rome, not Syracuse...Don't change something that is not broken...now after 31 years? Shame...
I support this petition. You worry about putting Utica "on the map"- and you don't want to include Utica in the premiere event of the summer. It makes no sense considering you have 11,000 participants, 6,500 volunteers. How much bigger do you need to get? Other 10-15k's would love to have a fraction of those numbers. Why not spend some time getting our timer chips to work next year!
I support this petition. The town needs all the identity it can get at this point. Why take away something that truly markets the town? Leave marketing of the event to people that know how.
