I believe that it is the least that we can do. If paramount only took .01% of the money they will make from this movie and put towards helping these boys and their family, it would be more that enough to help them.

I fully intend on raising awareness regarding this petition and campaign. I would like to see the film when it comes out; however, would not feel comfortable doing so until Paramount does more to ensure that the adolescents who starred in this film are no longer at risk as a result of their participation. Please assist these boys and their families!

Paramount, please show the world you aren't exploiting these children, by giving them their fair share of the profits (no doubt you would if they were from the US...), so that they can pay for a new and better life in a safer city.

This is horrid and against human rights...quite obviously. One would think knowing the controversy around the book etc, the film makers would have been a. more sensitive b. smarter to not use actors from the region. (if that is the case).

As a writer and a journalist that has worked in third-world/war ravaged countries, I am appalled by what I have just read. The book had a powerful effect on me, but if this account is true, this demeans the story to the point that I will probably toss it in the garbage. If you cannot protect the child actors and their families in creating the machine of entertainment, then I see little difference between this and child exploitation.Hat's off to those signing this petition.

No film or any other form of art or entertainment is worth putting people's lives in danger. In light of the millions the film will earn, the filmmakers can certainly afford to help the Afghan families that may be harmed because of their participation in the film. The welfare of children should always come first - always.

Ellen Sweeney said 04/05/07, 1:30 am (verified)
I really dont give a crap about how much these boys were paid.....that is irrelevant to this issue...... The point is if Dreamworks decides to make a movie like Kite Runner that contains a scene within the movie that will cause problems due to cutural sensitivities about the issue contained within the scene, they should have fully disclosed the nature of the scene to these families (My guess is they didnt and they didnt INTENTIONALLY)..the family if they knew about the scene would not have let their child act in this movie for any amount of money...Homosexuality is an immoral sin in the eyes of Muslims and to depict a rape of one young boy by another and then the rape of a boy by an adult, the people that see this fill are going to want to ostracize and punish this little boy that plays Hassan in the movie because of what he acted out in the movie......some may even believe he really had sex with another boy and an adult They have a moral responsibility to help these kids and their families in any and all ways possible to avoid the horrible situation that will inevitably happen when this movie comes out.....
