It's called life, life has labels, names and titles, deal with them, tolerate them or be a whiney ***** and complain about them. The way I look at it, is labels aren’t really a bad thing. Stop me if you've heard this one: "Labels are for soup cans." We have all heard it, I know but what does it mean? That people can't be labeled? Of course they can! (lol “can”... get it?) I'll name a few labels right now. Boy, girl, teen, adult, child, American, Canadian, graduate, poor, rich, black, white, tall, short. Any of these ring any bells? I bet you thought labels were just the high school "prep, jock, goth, punk, emo, ect ect ect, on and on, da de da de da". I’m from gothic girl from Canada, if some one calls me a "Canadian" am I offended? No. if some one calls me a "girl" am I offended? No. After all I am a Canadian and I am a girl, so why should I get up set if some one calls me a "Goth"? I can't really disagree, I look at my self, shrug and say "yeah I can see that" and move on. Why cry "label label"? Labels are every where, if some one calls you a punk and you are a "punk," I say shut up and try even taking it as a compliment. If some one calls you a "stupid punk" then it's the word stupid you take offence to not the label. Weather or not some one thinks all Canadians live in igloos when they call me Canadian or weather or not some one thinks all Goths want to kill them selves when they call me a Goth, it’s still not the labels fault for the dumb stereotypes people attach to them.
Labels are only bad if the definition fallowing them is bad. Look up the word label, in fact let me do it for you.
Label: a brief description given for purposes of identification.
Now doesn't THAT shed some light on things? So basically it's a name... Where would we be if things didn’t have names? Personally I think it's easier to say: that person is "tall". Instead of saying: that person is "great in vertical dimension". Easier to say: that is a "rich" person. Rather than saying: that is a person having an abundant supply of desirable qualities or substances. The only problem is that it's easy because every one knows what tall and rich mean... but if you say "prep" one might think, a snobbish person, another might think a person who wear pink, the next guy will say they are popular, ect. Just like with "goth," one person thinks devil worshiper, the other thinks black clothing, the next thinks all of the above. There are real definitions out there for these "high school" labels, but even still every one will think what they want. The question is what do you believe your self to be? Goth the devil worshiper or goth the creative person? As long as you know what you are what other people think shouldn’t mean ****. So now we got over the process of labeling and being labeled, but what of those who label them selves?
I personally am a goth, what are you? "oh my goth"... I used a label! Sue me. Or maybe now I am not goth because I called my self goth. Again this gets silly, "I dub thee a 'tuna fish sandwich'... and having said that; you are now no longer a tuna fish sandwich because real tuna fish sandwiches don't go by the name 'tuna fish sandwich'." The poor tuna fish sandwich, it must be confused... or maybe it's has it's name back because it did not call “itself” by that name. Or maybe it can only be called that by other people, but has to deny it every time, so people will still think it a cool sandwich who doesn't go by labels.....
Wow. That almost goes to the point of philosophy.... but since it's not we will call it idiocy. So how do we solve this idiotic problem about labels? Simple Logic of course:
Label whiners: Labels are for soup cans........
Me: Well if a can has tuna in it, you call it a can of tuna.
