As many of you know, we have secured the heritage listing of Langley Speedway, through your support and the recognition of the GVRD Parks Committee, the GVRD Board and the Township of Langley. Thanks goes out to them.

In securing the Heritage listing of Langley Speedway, it was our understanding that the heritage aspects of the track were to be recognized and given value. It seems that is not the case. Park staff has determined that the original road that leads around to the backstretch of the track is to be closed and used as a part of an equestrian trail that was proposed, but has yet to be approved. Several drawings of this proposed trail show it in different locations. There have been no environmental studies done concerning this trail and it has not received approval from the GVRD. Now that we want to use the original road, as it was intended, to bring cars onto the speedway on the backstretch of the track, we are being told we may not improve it, and to consider it's imminent closure. A short-cut was created when heavy equipment was brought in to destroy the track after it closed. It was never meant to be part of the road. It accesses the track in turn 3, but because of the elevation change and the banking of the track, it has created a peak at the point where the "road" meets the track. This will never accomodate lowered cars or long buses or trailers. Besides, it is destroying that corner of the track due to pressure waves forcing the ground up under the track.

The intent of this petition is to help the politicians and Park staff realize that the original, full length of the road is part of the heritage aspect of Langley Speedway, is best suited for the purpose of bring automobiles and trailers onto the speedway and it should not be closed for use by us or any other group wanting to access the track. The road is part of the speedway. Do not close any part of it.

Also, we want the site to be known excusively as Langley Speedway, not "Little River Bowl" as it is currently called by the GVRD.

I was a kid when I went there to watch the claimers run and it was great. My kids would enjoy that today if it was still there. Keep it a historical site and you never know what can happen.

It would be great to have this track restored and returned to its original use. I attended races at the track in the late 70's with Cubs. I would like my son to now have the same experience.
