Please support our efforts to have this former NASCAR sanctioned track, designated as a heritage site.

The Langley Speedway Historical Society is interested in restoring this heritage site, much the same as a heritage house or other site would be. This will be a unique project in Canada. Outside of this community, only in the United States and parts of Europe has such a facility been given heritage designation.
With its natural grandstands, park setting, and open space, Langley Speedway has the ability to once again, become a proud part of the Township of Langley. It can be a congregation and show place for vintage, custom and antique cars from throughout the Pacific Northwest. Many local car clubs have their own shows at various times during the year. This site would be especially attractive to these clubs, when we display its heritage. We have been told, the promoters of the Langley Cruise-in want to use the track as a tie-in with the Friday night cruise.
After modest repairs and cleaning, this site will become desirable as a gathering place for car enthusiasts and for outdoor activities such as bicycle events, or roller-blading. We would hold an annual Langley Speedway Reunion, to bring together the many families and friends that used to race here. Reunions of different types can be held at the track as well. There are many possibilities, all encouraged by the tracks heritage. As you know, tourism is now the fastest growing sector of our economy. Langley Speedway can once again become a valuable asset to the Township of Langley, as well as the GVRD.
Over time, we will replace one or more of the buildings that stood above the grandstands. This will house artifacts and copies of documents and photographs, enhancing and extending interpretation available through the Langley Centennial Museum. We will dedicate certain aspects of the facility, as memorials to drivers who raced at the track and have since passed away.
We have local businesses interested in supporting us, both financially and with materials and equipment, as well as an ever-increasing number of individuals willing to help us with the labour and logistics of this proposed project.
Please join the many people and businesses already interested in this project.

This sounds like a great idea. There are very few places left in B.C that still have some race heritage.

I've alway's had a love for motor sport. In Canada it is not as supported as it is in the USA. In Amaerica, it seems that almost every county or town has an oval or track facility at a fairgrounds. I've been involved as a Medic in motor sports diuring my 20 year careeras an emergency responder, and would love to see this site re used as a motor sport venue.

My family and I were walking through the park some 15 years ago not knowing that there ever was a race track their. Was I ever delighted to see it as well as upset that like other great tracks around B.C. had fallen to closure for one reason or another.I presently belong to a couple of British car clubs as sports cars and racing are a passion. About 5 years back I aproached the parks board about useing the old track as a gathering and picnic site for our club, but unfortunately met with we could'n be responsable issues from the board. Well all I can say it was great to see all the cars their on July 1 and maybe there is hope for my club yet to use it for a day.Great work, I support you all the way.

Grew up pretty well next door to the track and had one of my first part time jobs in the pit concession.

I raced hit and pass inthe `79 `81 seasons. It was a truely exciting experience and I miss this track to this day. I understand that there is a c.d. of the operating years. please send me info on how to get this. My car`s racing name was Smoke Spagar, Hairy Canary, and Jonny Crash.

The Lower Mainland really needs an accessible family oriented motorsport facility like this. I could take my 4-year-old daughter to Langley Speedway for an enjoyable evening. I think the kids who take Shop in school, and all the men and women who work with their hands deserve so much more credit than they get in the media. Oval racing is safe, healthy even, no-nonsense, a great community builder. Don't force BC racers to cross the US border to get a race!

I attended races here as a child, and car shows as an adult. I think it would be a great idea to preserve it for future use.

I'm happy the project is up and running. This was a part of my childhood growing up because I lived nearby and attended many of the events.
