I support this petition.I have many good memories of the Speedway and even now I take the dog walking around the track there is an eery, almost Spiritual feeling down in the bowl
I support this petition. As a current and active racer, as well as a local Langley business person,I support this petition to bring Langley speedway back to the condition it deserves.
I support this petition. Too little attention is paid to motorsports in this province. We need this facility and preserving it as Heritage is sa first class way to achieve this goal.
I support this petition. Having learned my racing skills at Langley and being a 3 time track champion I would welcome an opportunity to be involved in the Speedway again.

The first thing that comes to my mind its something that most guys like and I thing it would be great. Everyone even us girls.
I support this petition. I went to many events at langley with my father in the early seventies. I have some good memories of some of the races I saw. I would like to to see the track brought back to life so that many other father and sons could go and have the same experiences that I shared with my father
I support this petition.
The first thing that comes to my mind is the value to the community, as outlined in the petition. But if all the younger drivers joined a local club and learned the dangers of speed on the streets and only one person is saved from a street racing fatiality it will be well worth the effort.
I support this petition. I race in dirt racing in washington mostly because there is close to nowhere to race in the lower mainland and a friend of mine raced at Langley years ago and he had great memories of this once famous track. Lower mainland would benifit to have this historic track reconized.
I moved to B.C. in 1966 and one of my co-workers Cal Arnold drove a race car, he invited me to come and watch the action at Langley Speedway. I was hooked, I knew I had to get involved in some way, I joined the British Columbia Track Racing Association and began a life long love of motorsports. I had to get out of those stands and into the pits so I volunteered to write for the speedway program, this led to articles for Motorsport West magazine but I needed to feel excitement of actually doing more, through the club some of us took a firefighting course and became the safety crew. I was thrilled in 1968 when Jack Norgard and Fred Brooks asked me if I would crew on the #90 a modified that my friend Cal Arnold drove & I was over the moon. Over the next few years we had the privilege of not only running at Langley but all through the Pacific Northwest & Alberta. The best track was always 'home at Langley'. Where else could you see up close and personal legends like Ron Eaton,Eldon Rasmussen, the Sneva's ( father Edsel & his sons Tom 'the gassman of Indy 500 fame' & Jan who lost his life driving sprint cars) the most famous Canadian driver at that time 'Rapid' Roy Smith from Victoria with his famous 'daffodil special' # 7 Indy sprint car. Roy went on to not only qualify but finish the Daytona 500 on a couple of occasions and was a multi winner of the Winston West Nascar Championship. There were many local favourites as well ( Hemrich, George Cook, Jim McMillan, Larry Sproule, Denny Goldstraw, Ron Morrison, Brian Thompson, Black Jack Cross, Barry Chamberlain, Ralph Monhay,Dennis Lester and a host of others, they all had their backers in the overflow crowds that showed up every Saturday night & the occasional Sundays.
With Nascar so overwhelmingly popular now I not only belive that this gem should be saved but would hope that some enterprising individuals would open it back up. Th
In September 1969, "...stock car driver Gordie Hemrich didn't win the super stock main event Sunday at Langley Speedway but he won the admiration of a lot of fans anyway. Henrich, of Vancouver, was leading the 40-lap feature race until the 19th lap, when he spun out. Starting from the back of the 19-car field, Hemrich worked his way up and crossed the line in second place." (Province paper)
I support this petition because of the memories of a well attended sport.
Langley Speedway is a treasured memory to racers, racing spectators and supporters of racing.. The ideal setting with a natural built in hillside for the enthusiasic specatators to watch the competion , which at Langley Speedway was a joy to watch and participate in.. The best of friends banging fenders and not giving an inch to prove who was the best on any given night or any heat race or main event.. Those of us that were there from the beginning to the end ,, miss it dearly.. And what an economical loss to all those sponsers and eateries etc in Langley that benefited financially from our attendance in Langley on Saturday afternoons and after the races..
I support this petition.
Few places on this wonderful blue planet created by men and women touch the very fabric of family values and lifestyles the way Langley Speedway has done. Wonderful images during an era where the world had a had time finding Peace can make such a claim. During the events of the Sixties and Seventy's and into the early Eighties, Langley Speedway brought complete strangers into the Langley's who still remember a simpler time in life without the hectic schedules of today.
From the blue collar crowd to the high-profile members of the Lower Mainland, langley Speedway became a gathering place bring all values and lifestyles together.
My family supports this Petition and trusts that the decision makers in the Lower Mainland will inlcude their support to give this site the Heritage Recognition it so rightly deserves.
Regards, Rob Collins
I support this petition because Langley Speedway is a Heritage site, regardless of any past controversy. It should be preserved just as any other site of historical significance to this community would be.
