I enthusiastically support this petition.
History needs to be preserved , and this can be a useful, functional project for car shows, etc as well as preserving history.
A great opportunity for the local community and the car community.
I support this petition. I raced at Langley Speedway from 1969-73. I was rookie of the year, early-late, 1969 and BCTRA top points in 1972 0r '73. I feel that the racing experience has helped me throughout my lifetime in many different ways. I believe that if the young people of today had a sanctioned racing outlet, we could prevent many needless deaths due to street racing. Their everyday driving skills would be vastly improved too.
I support this petition. I watched many races from those old grandstands and on a trip back from Portland raceway several years ago I stopped at the old track and it saddened me to think of all the kids growing up in langley that never got a chance to experience the exciting racing that was my summer routine. Those are fond memories.
I absolutly support this petition. As said before this is the best idea I've seen ai a very long time. Just imagine how many fewer kids will be killed on the streets!
I support this petition. Give the community a safe place to race, we too were part of the original setting, racing and enjoying our weekends at the track with our family in tow.
I support this petition. Go Ms. Graham! Help get kids off of the street and on a track. I could just imagine how much fun this kind of an event could be for a father and son.
I am in full support of this Initiative. I myself raced at Langley in the late 70's and early 80's. Some the best times of my life. I am quite convinced that having a Speedway such as Langley in my younger days, provided me an "out", as it were, for my aggresions or need for speed, yet in a SAFE controlled environment. I believe that these experiences both on the track and off, through the friendship and support of other drivers and teams, taught me respect, while on the road and on the track.
While the supoort I am giving to this project will not re-open the Speedway, I am convinced that through the car show events proposed for the property, providing history and info on Langley and other current tracks such as Mission Drag Strip or oval tracks such as Kent Raceways, will provide a challenging alternative to "street racing", yet in a controlled, safe environment and the opportunity to show off the competitors mechanical abilities, no matter what the genre of racing!!
NASCAR has become the worlds most watched sporting event and were the youth of NASCAR, back in the day, right in our own backyard.
Who would know if the track had never closed. Could we have had the Kasey Kahne's. .the Kurt & Kyle Bushe's, Derrick Cope up here racing!!!
Just a pipe dream I know, but the reality of a heritage site and it's opportunities are endless!!
Respectfully,
Murray T. Beggs
I support this petition. The heritage of the sport of Auto Racing in B.C. dates back to the 1920s. As a Director of the Victoria Auto Racing Hall of Fame, established in 1984 as the first of its kind in Canada, I strongly feel this type of project should be supported.
I support this petition. Its about time we acknowledged the large part of our population who are involved and interested in vintage cars, hot rods and racing. It’s a spectacular idea to celebrate the history & the future of this site. Bravo. Will definitely support any events at this restored site.
I support this petition.as a kid growing up in langley it was a great place to be on a saturdaynight.are parents would drop us off. we would sneak in and watch the raceing. untill we got caught and put to work on the track clean truck.wow what a better place to be than the stands ,workin the action. the good old days eh !!
I fully support this petition. My late husband Jack (Smokey) Graham started racing in the beginning years of Langley Speedway & raced a number of years. He would have been very pleased to know that it was to be preserved as a heritage site. He always had such fond memories of the track, it always brought a smile to his face and a chuckle. It was very family oriented sport & every race day brought out whole extended families--wives or girlfriends, sons, daughters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grandparents & many friends to support the drivers and pit crews. Many friendships were forged among the car drivers & families & even though a driver may bump another car during the race, they would laugh & joke about it in the pits after the race. My two oldest sons learned mechanics from age 10 on by helping on their father's race cars & those two sons & a nephew also raced at Langley Speedway. I think it was a shame that it was ever closed, especially when the biggest complaint came from people that moved next to the track knowing the track was in full operation. The voice of racing sport fans was not heard.
We need to have some heritage motorsport sites. There used to be Digney Speedway in Burnaby & Haney Speedway but nobody even knows where they were. Langley Speedway even brought in racers from the USA. This definitely should be a heritage site & it is something that should have been done years ago. The track was a very big part of Langley's history for a lot of years & we can still save it as heritage for future generations.
I believe racing is alive and growing in the province and the Langley Speedway was a big part in helping to foster this great sport in B.C.! I will support this petition as a step towards reopening the Langley Speedway.
I support this petition. As a current racer and started my racing at Langley Speedway I support the re-opening or anything that makes it a historical site. And my sponsors also support the valuable indever. Thanks Keith Davidson
After being involved in the building of the track and racing there in the modified and early late classes for a few years,I would love to see it as a Heritage site as for a long time it was an integral part of the community and it should not be forgotten.
