I currently race at Agassiz Speedway. My father, Larry Gibbons was President of Langley Speedway back in the late sixties. He raced the "Lucky 13" aka "The Red Baron" 1933 Ford modified stock. He has recently passed, but some of my fondest memories of growing up were at that track with my Dad. I think everyone involved should be commended for their efforts.
I stood on the front straight of Langley speedway with my wife today July 21, 2006). Ten great years of racing memories building and driving stock car No. 39 came flooding back. Langley Speedway is such an important piece of history in so many respects.
I support this petition, for the fact that it is a heritage sight, & the first track that we ( myself, wife, & friends)not only spectated at but raced at as well.
Langley Speedway was the first for me back in '79. I was lucky to be taken there, along with my pal Steve, by Steve's dad Wendle Hora. I remember thinking to myself, " If I lived in the lower mainland I would get my dad to take me here every weekend!"
Although it was only twice that I went that summer, it will be Langley Speedway that I think of when I remember the first time I saw the races.
because of the memories of my first job, working in the concession stand. It was a great opportunity for someone still in highschool in the late 70's early 80's. I will always remember the sounds, smell and excitement the races brought to the area. The idea of a heritage site is wonderful. The fact that it will be used to showcase these types of events is even better. The cars these days don't have the same character or style that was of yesteryear. It will always hold a fond place in my memory and my heart
Hi my Name is Aaron Trenholm and i am a track announcer in Quesnel BC as well as Prince George BC. And i used to be an avid race promoter. I think what you are trying to do here is awesome so you have my full support. I hope you get it up and running. If you ever need an announcer for the weekend i am fairly well know around the local track and i am willing to help.
I suport this petition becauseI was on the pit crew for Bruce Bensmiller's modified when the track was fist opened in the early 1960s. In the 1940s I worked on the old Langford speedway on Vancouver island. It was taken over by a school and is gone and mostly forgotten. All the history is lost now.I would really hate to see the same thing happen in Langley.
Ihave raced at agassiz speedway for the last 15 years and have heard many great stories about Langley Speedway from former racers of the track. Bravo to those who inspired this effort to immortalize Langley Speedway
Most definitely the speedway should be restored. My dad was on the pit crew of a modified and I was at the first race day ever held at the track. Revive the track and bring back racing I say
I was employed at Langley Speedway in the early 70's. I also watched many races since, including NASCAR events. If Boundary Bay airport can be reactivated, so can Langley Speedway! With no more INDY, what an opportunity!!!
I fully support this petition. I am tired of seeing our heritage being destroyed because of greed and it does not fit in with the heritage of 'others' (see Westwood Racetrack). Though I know it would be too much to ask that this track be made into a working track (even though this would bring in a regular income to the area), we should be able to make it into a viable museum and community park (maybe even a small fair every year). Hell, it could even be turned into an outdoor theatre (we're bringing back the viewing stands, right?).
We support this petition because we have many fond memories of good family times at Langley Speedway with our children and friends in the 70s and 80s.We still have some of the old programs and some photographs.
I was a local driver from Blaine Wa when the track closed and what a disappointment that was. I often come up to BC and drive by just for fun. What good friends I meet and good times were had by all.
As far as I am concerned all the old tracks should have a heritage designation. Racing, in my opinion, is an important part of history in the United States and Cananda. Too many tracks are just bulldozed and forgotten. We need to preserve this important piece of history.
Take a look around Langley on any sunny day, you will see people enjoying thier cars. There is a huge annual car show that attracts thousands. Many rewarding and successful careers have been enjoyed by what was built and raced at the track. Countless pleasant memories by families of evenings spent watching the action. Langley is truly a city with a history in motorsports. Langley Speedway is a heritage site that needs to be recognized as such.
Street Racing is on the rampage. People are being killed on our street. Give our children a place to race that is close to home. The Langley Speedway will give an interest to people especially those living in the area. Keep racing ALIVE !!!
I support the petition.
My husband & I belong to the Porsche Club of America and I know a club such as ours would definitely use the track for gatherings. Thanks for putting this together. It is a big challenge and we wish you success, if you need volunteers, we will be there to support this great idea.
I had no idea the Speedway was even shut down as I have lived out of langley until 10 years ago although I grew up here. The Speedway was my first summer job during my HIghschool days, it's sad that it's lying dormant I would love to see it turned into something and before even reading the Langley Times article I was envisioning something happening here in Langley that we don't have and this site would be perfect for it

As One of the lucky ones being able to have raced at Langley speedway in the hit to pass class and demo derby. To have raced against Some great competiters as Rick Pemble (CAPT CRUNCH #212)** Murray Chambers (King Cobra #42)** Angelo Demitri (Italian Stalion #12)**Hans Renker (Mad Painter)*** and many others. We where all devoted to Racing and putting on a good show for the fans. Would really like to see something good become of the track as we have no place here to race, and even thou My wife and I no longer Race our children still race and have to travel to the USA or Vancouver Island. SO I HOPE SOMETHING CAN BE DONE TO SAVE THE TRACK EVEN JUST FOR THE MEMORIES
when I read about the petition in the Langley Times i just had to sign it. I was really surprised to find out we had a raceway, And i would love to see it spruced up and be made usuable. Keep kids off the stree. Give them a raceway instead
THIS SITE HAS BEEN A DELIGHT FOR MANY AND WOULD CONTINUE TO BE FOR MANY MORE GENERATIONS...YOU WANNA KEEP KIDS OFF THE STREETS, PUT EM AT THE RACEWAY WITH THEIR FOLKS...
I support this petition.Far too many Motorsport facilities have been sacrificed for residential or commercial development. A Heritage site will be as asset for Langley
I support this petition because for years I have been a crewmember for a car raceteam at Westwood racetrack wich was taken away from us and a new location was prommised but never given.Racing has to stay alive.
