As a motorsports fan I would love nothing more to have a track so close to my home other than drag racing.I miss the wetwood days, only if I was just a kid.
We need to keep this. My son and his dad both race currently out in Agazzis. We need more of this. We have lost to many great places to go over the years. No Westwood, we need LANGLEY! Keep it going.
I support this GREAT IDEA. As a kid without a licence there was a lot of hitch hiking to the speedway. In those days my best bud's dad sponsered Larry Sproule's car. A name on the petion mentioned Digney & Haney. That brought back memories as my dad and a fella called Roy Johnson used to race there. So im aware of all the disappearing tracks and no history to follow. PURSUE THIS WITH ALL YOUR ENERGIES AND GOOD LUCK!
I have so many fantastic memories of Langley Speedway. My husband (of 30 years) and I, along with tons of our friends, made a habit out of going to the speedway every weekend. We live in Northern BC now, but if the races were still at Langley Speedway, we'd still be making plans to attend as much as possible.
Hi my name is Clarence, I use to race on this track from 1979 to 1975. I was one of the first ones to race on this track when it first opened. My car # was 73. We had many great times on the Langley speedway track. Why not keep this track up and running and let the next Generation enjoy what I had when I was young.
i belive this track sill has extensive value to the many sporting communities in the area, both motosports and human powerd activities and historic shows could be a great bennifit to the entire community
because many of my early childhood memories are of this track and my family has lived in the greater vancouver area for over 60 years.and my grandfather sponcered cars there.
Being members of Agassiz Speedway in Agassiz, BC. we've come to learn about and love oval track racing, and after visiting the site of Langley Speedway, viewing old photos of it and hearing the testimonies of many people who frequented and loved the track, it seems only right that it should be restored if not for racing than at least to commemorate it. This petition has our full support.
I currently own a 1965 beaumont street stock that was built in 1972 and ran at langleyspeedway it is still runing strong today at agassiz speedway...and we wold love to bring it back to its original track and have some fun!
We need to put racing back on tracks so the young people today can see that their need for speed should only be attempted on a controlled and regulated track.
My brothers and I had a lot of good times at the track. One of my brothers and his buddy built their stock car and raced there. I got to meet a few of the racers. Langley Speedway is a beautiful area and there are few of them left!
The Canadian racing scene will be evolving over the next years. I encourage the race enthusiasts from the Fraser Valley to support this project. -Promofest Inc.
I feel this is a much needed venue. We have lost too many great places like this including most recently Westwood. Lets restore this gem to its glory I for one would love to be able to go there and even participate in events.
I STARTED RACING AT LANGLEY THE YEAR IT OPENED IN AN EARLY LATE AND WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO WIN THE BCTRA SUPER STOCK CHAMPIONSHIP IN 1968. I THINK THAT IF WE COULD OPEN IT UP JUST 1 NIGHT A MONTH IT WOULD SHOW THE POWERS TO BE THAT THERE IS A SOURCE OF REVENUE THERE TO HELP MAINTAIN THE REST OF CAMPBELL VALLEY PARK
Having been a part of the racing history at Langley Speedway in several classes but mainly in early lates, modified stocks and modified sportsman I can remember how much this facility brought to Langley and the surrounding communities both monetary and as great family entertainment. I fully support this petition
I think this track should be restored, and opened up for racing, a hornet class there would be great and may even help to keep some people from racing on the street.
becasue NASCAR is the #2 North American sport, only behing the NFL. It is also the fastest growing sport in North America. F1 has racing through the streets of Europe, and here it is considered a crime to have a track operating anywhere in the lower mainland. Professinal NASCAR driver make $Millions per year, and in the Vancouver area we are so backwards that we don't have a single facilty that can be used to train our young talent. None. Meanwhile we have lacrose rinks and other sports venues that are amongst the worlds lowest ranked sports, and have very little spectator or economic possibilities. Come on Canada, pull your head out. Racing is a huge sport in the world. In comparision, hockey doesn't even rate. Think about that for a minute, and then get into the 21st Century.
What an incredible opportunity to relive some of Langley's exciting motorsport past! This track has provided many fond memories for racers and fans alike. I'd love to have the opportunity share this love of racing with my own children as well as having the opportunity of sharing a valuble part of Langley's history.
As a kid I fell asleep summer nights with my window open listening to the sounds of the track. Getting out to a race with my friends and our dad's was a highlight of the summer. This little track is an important part of the social fabric of my generation.
because as a former Modified Sportsman champion and track record holder there I know first hand the contribution that Langley Speedway has given to all of us that had a part in her history and feel if it was reopened that a new generation could experience that as well.
I support this petition because Langley speedway has given me so many great memories of watching my father race his modifieds there. And this would a positive endevour for the township of Langley for many years to come.
because there are no other venues in the lower fraser valley that wouls support this type of racing. Langley's economy would greatly benefit from this. It's just a bit of noise on a Saturday. It's not the end of the FREAKIN' world!!
As a member of the langley quater midget association i would love to see a place to remember the history and work that not only was in the langley speedway but that also went into building are track on 8th ave. In time i hope that the entire westcoast racing cammunity can come together to support each other and that the GVRD well realize that motorsports is one of the fastest growing sports in BC now and for long into the future.
I have great memories as a kid attending races at Langley Speedway. What a great way to honour these memories an assist the many car enthusiasts in Langley.
i would like to see them re-open the track, i remember the days when my dad Roy Haslam raced there, againts drivers like Ron Eaton, Bob Fox, Hershal McGiff, Roy Smith, and etc. It was good hard racing back then. It would be today if they would reopen the speedway. The people would support it thanks
I raced at Langley in the late 70's/early 80's. I would much rather see this money spent on a facility where young people could actually race their cars. We really don't need another heritage site.
Racing has been one of the many passions I have in life, as many like me have had. This site should be used as a museum or even race track again, as it is part of our history and passions for many generations. Lets not let it become a thing of the past.
Side note, with all the street racing problems, it seams strange that we don't want to have track facilities available to all sorts of drivers. This track, the coquitlam track and many more were places for young and old to enjoy speed in a contolled arena. Maybe its time to look into opening more facilities for todays drivers.
I support this petition because the area is being underused and not well looked after. The drivers and pit crews that came to Langley went on to be very famous. Hershal McGiff is one of nascars top 50 drivers. Rusty wallace came here as a pit crew.Plus all the local stars
