Recent Academic Research reveals lap dancing as a catalogue of exploitation and abuse. This includes underage workers, poor pay and work conditions, prostitution and incompatability with equalities.

We call for recommendations from this research to be adopted. For Lap Dancing venues to be licensed as SEX ESTABLISHMENTS not PUBS. For Restrictions on the ADVERTISING of Lap Dancing. For an End to PRIVATE BOOTHS. For Further RESEARCH into the Sex Industry

I support this Petition. The governemnt and club owners (read:Gangsters) are to blame for instigating a shift in moral boudaries for that what they had NO BUSINESS sticking their noses in: The bodies and souls of working women (many of whom are single Mothers, students and women fleeing domestic abuse) and basically FORCING women to surpass their own personal boudaries in order to make a buck. The government who voted IN this crap as "moral and sound" did so with VESTED INTEREST of themselves and OBLITERATED our Industry in one fell swoop of GREED and disregard. SHAME on those men. You r greed has subsequently forced women into dangerous, illicit jobs, has robbed proud women of their dignity, and has forced many others into welfare lines. One way or another, the government does pay for that crime of meddling with this old and (once) moral, fun and safe porfession:Burlesque-rape d by politics. Shame on you for ruining our business with YOUR filthy greedy minds and black hearts. Humanitarianism is not your 'bag' I suppose. Signed , Denise LaFrance, Toronto, Canada

I am concerned about the continuing objectification of womens' bodies as commodities and by the many negaitve implications this has for young people of both genders.

I support this petition because because I am strongly against the exploitation ofwomen as purely sex objects. In the modern worldwe are not judged by how intelligent, outgoing orhonest we are. We are judged by a score out often.

I understand the issues following this academic survey (conducted by whom???) I would agree that under aged workers is definitely a form of exploitation IF they do not understand or are forced in to it and so on. Clubs being used as a front for prostitution I would also consider a form of exploitation, as this is illegal in the first place. So I would assume unless they are unconcerned with how they earn their money, they are most likely forced in to it themselves. However Lap Dancing in itself I feel is not exploitation as from what I have gathered most girls/women will willingly do this form of work. It does become exploitation however when they are cheated, coerced or forced into doing this line of work so we should be more careful about who we brand as capitalist pigs and vulnerable women. Also please REMEMBER exploitation is purely subjective (relies on the person feeling exploited, and the moods of society at the time if they don't then their not)

I support this petition as there is a lot of explotation within this perfession. Originally lap dancing did not start off bad, it began in burlesque houses. However underage girls, should not be exploited in money, work and most importantly striping just for societies entertainment.

because I am concerned about the proliferation of images of women as comodities to be bought and sold rather than as strong, intelligent and worthwhile people in their own rights.

If lap dancing venues are not considered sex establishments, what message are we sending? That it's perfectly normal to have a naked lady gyrating around you as you sip your pint? Objectification at its worst - women becoming not even things, but mere background.

I am an ex-dancer who has recently given up the job for good after a on/off seven year stint working in various clubs around the UK. It is only now as i step away from the industry that i realize how vulnerable and naive I was. I loved to dance and have seen some amazing, beautiful, erotic pole shows in my time, however, this male-dominated industry isn't about the standard of dance and entertainment.. it's about money, power and masculinity. Trust me,I have seen what goes on in CERTAIN clubs. There is absolutley no protection for the girls, (and i am not talking about 6ft doormen) Girls ARE exploited. This needs to be recognized before any more cowboys decide on a new business venture in this industry and more naive 'Heat' readers(as young as 17) decide on taking this career choice.
