We the parents of students and students of Lincoln Park Michigan School District are not happy or comforted with the 2006-2007 dress code for Lincoln Park Public Schools. We would like to make changes to the new dress code. We feel these changes that board members voted on take away from the focus of education on all parties involved. If these standards are not revised or changed we ask that a voting take place to where students, parents and staff have the abillity to vote on a dress code. We are in agreement that there should be a reasonable dress code in place and enforced.

because no matter what gang violence isnt really gonna stop they did his to try to cut down on ang violence.. The thing they dont understand is that gangs dress in a solid colored pant and solid colored shirt which shows what gang they represent... So what good would this do it would help gang violence by lettin gangs wear the colors they wernt allowed to wear before

I support this petition because I feel that I did not send my kids to a privateschool I sent them to a public school where I feltthey would be excepted the way they are. I dofeel that some kids dress out of line but itshould be the parents and teachers job if theyfeel that a child is not dressed appropriatly thatthey should have been sent home, not punish therest of the kids. Why was there not a vote withthe parents of Lincoln Park on this dress codeissue. The board of Education needs to rememberthat we voted them in, & we can vote them out...

I suport this potition because richer and non-richer schools than us don't have a dress code, Why should we. A dress code won't keep the crime down, or help anyone learn. And all of the kids who dreesed inopropriotly last year are NOT going to follow this dress code, they will be suspended every day.

T-shirts with sports teams and logos and bands are not hindering education of our children. I cannot go out and buy new clothes for my son just because someone on the school board deems it necessary. As a taxpayer supporting this school system, I should be the one to decide what my child wears to school. My son couldn't even bring a science book home last year because there weren't enough to go around. You would think this board would have more important matters to attend to than someone's clothing. I had planned on having my son wear some of the same clothes he wore last year. This is not a rich community. Many are wondering how they will pay their heating bills this winter. Now, the school board wants us to go out and buy a new wardrobe when the clothes our children had on last year were fine. If a teacher or administrator sees something that is inappropriate, they should report it to the principal and have the principal talk to the individual's parents. That is what they get PAID for.

I agree there needs to be a dress code enforced, however this one is overly harsh on childrens creativity and expression. I do believe more attention needs to be paid to the teaching of the students rather than what they wear. Take entry 512 for an example of the desperate need of better education! Do away with too tight and too loose, chains, pajamas, etc. However, tucking shirts in, no cargo's, no mismatched shoelaces, etc, that is too far. Not all kids want to destroy something or someone just because they are wearing different clothing. I used to be one of the rejects in school, now I am about to become a teacher myself. I believe in childrens individuality and creativity. They should be allowed to express themselves, but within reason. I think this is too far!

Did anyone who wrote this policy grow up in the 60's? What short memories people have. Burning bras anyone? Clothing has always and will always be a way for self expression. These extreme changes will only insight problems (well, hopefully anyway). I say just make them wear uniforms if the clothes are that much of a problem. I mean how much time are the teachers going to have to take away from teaching to address unmatched socks????

I support this petition. The Board of Education has gone to far. They are paid with our tax money but they do not feel they have to listen to the parents.
