It is essential that we do all we can to guarantee the longevity of our live music scene. Not only for us musicians, but for the people who support and take great pleasure from it. It is an integral part of our culture, and without it, our arts scene will die.
because I believe live music, poker machines, and sport on the big screen, all in pubs, should all come under equal scrutiny (or apathy)from the government. Singling out one from the others I believe is hypocritical and unfair.
I beleive hotels, bars & pubs should be venues which allow the unobstructed exchange of music art and culture. The only obstruction for this to happen is local government policy.
Live music allows the community to enjoy watching people who have usually trained their whole life to be performers. Live music performances ADD to the life of the community as opposed to poker machines and gambling [the other forms of "entertainment" offered at pubs] which are extremely negative forces.
Acts like AC/DC INXS Keith Urban have taken our music to the world, and they all started out in suburban pubs. Govenments prop up operah and ballet which is watched by a very few, and make it so hard for the absolute majority of of us CITIZENS & TAX PAYERS to hear what the talented entertainers of this state have to offer.
LET'S GET FAIR AND STOP DISCRIMINATING AGAINST CONTEMPORY MUSIC
Have heard our best muscians had their music turn down to an inaudible level. The laws are most anti-cultural. It is disgraceful the way live music is treated here.
NOT ONCE have I seen people excitedly calling and texting their friends 'hey, check out this new pokie'....yet, given half a chance, this is EXACTLY what happens after a live band. And the punters come back. Happy. Just a thought.
The Live music scene is dying under so many government restrictions that it will fade away. You need to rock we need rock, it's been a human necessity since man beat the drum.
