The live music scene in NSW is the breeding ground for international success, recognition and eventually the economy through the music industry that feeds into the national pride and identity of every Australian. Acts like Midnight Oil, ACDC, Silverchair now wolfmother all started with live gigs in the local pubs. It is quintessential that these venues do not get phased out for it is a high price to pay when we exchange the glue that holds the sense of community and national identity for the comparative short-term benfit of monetary gain from gambling machines. Its a high moral price tag that begs you to reconsider the re-percussions if we choose to pay.
While there is the need to consider the local community with matters relating to noise, consideration also neesd to be given to cultural development through the art6s the the positive impact this can have on the community
For a publican, live acoustic music is inexpensive, and for the public and participants, an enthralling and vibrant - and unifying - experience. See that, and let's get on with it!
Live is the way its supposed to be done.
I used to go to a lot of live gigs until the pubs they were once in turned in gaming lounges. It's pathetic, and so is the amount of problem gamblers in society today. Whose side is the government on anyway?
It is imperative that the musical talent of any individual be supported and encouraged. Live music enriches our lives and plays an important part in the culture of this country.
Live Music is an integral part of cultural experience. It is an inherent duty of our representatives in government positions to support rather than hinder artistic cultural expression in all its variety.
Live music creates vibrant pub culture. It would be fantastic if the government took some action to undo the damage to the pub scence created by pokies. It is too bad punters do not have the same lobbying power as the AHA.
It's about time that live music, by the people for the people, was given some legislative support. Supporting the local scene builds community spirit and ultimately nurtures
the economy. If we were to follow the pokie line, we would become soulless automatons in debt up to our eyeballs. Hey, maybe that's the idea!!!
We need more live venues and performance spaces. Let's not become brain dead TV and Pokey watches. Let's be creative and broaden peoples minds and lift their spirits. Live music does not break up families, health, or cause crime, it only invades the sould and takes us all to a better place.
I advocate this sensible reform of laws regarding the employment of live music, especially the ambient or acoustic variety, in licensed premises in NSW.
Music is the life-blood of our culture.
It must not be strangled to death.
Free our music. Deregulate accoustic & ambient music.
Let Australia's music free.
Yours sincerely
