by putting so much red tape in this situation how do you expect there to be any form of culture? music is a major part of society and these kinds of laws are cutting us off from something very deep in the human mind. Musicians have it hard enough as it is. laws like this are just around because of stupid people who move next to public places and want no noise. idiots. Music is something to be treasured, not covered up in thick red tape.
The ridiculous procedure and expense to get a public entertainment license is killing what remains of live music venues after the loss of so many to poker machines.
Recently the government has done an excellent job addressing the redevelopment of music education in our schools, via serious funding, management & support. Let's finish the job & create a live music culture via venues in which current & future musicians can entertain & grow.
because I am originally from the live music capital of Aus, Fitzroy in Melbourne and I am going crazy that there are so few live venues in Sydney and so much talent to be heard. Give muso's a chance and be consistent with by-laws.
The music industry needs assistance to become a viable and cultural addition to our states assets, not Government inconsistencies, red tape and obstacles.
it is a logical move to better the cultural value of the state. These old laws are the reason I never vote for politicians, voting only encourages them and we end up with idiotic laws like these and similar.
I am embarrassed, when asked by tourists where they can go to hear live music, that I can only name three late night venues in Sydney, that, is shameful.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that with more musicians working the more tax
we're paying and what govt doesn't want that. The NSW govt it seems.
a world without music would be a pretty dreary place and yet us musicians have to struggle to make a living. No superannuation, no sick pay, none of the benefits of other workers. Give us a break.
Because having worked in the industry for nearly 30 years i have seen first hand what these laws have done to our industry. I have watched the "live band" and venues slowly die, and a culture that supported the nurturing and honing of talent slowly disappear
I support this petition because live music needs to be encouraged, not discouraged, in NSW. Laws that make it hard for venues to support live talent stifle the growth of music and culture in this country. We don't need such laws.
I have had to work overseas where live music culture is more appreciated, and I would like to return to my home in Sydney one day, when ridiculous NSW government obstables to live music culture appreciation are removed.
I support this petition because Live Music is part of the cultural diversity in NSW. We can help our artists by supporting laws that will assist them to perform to everyone and anyone.
Trivia is booked in most hotels and would carry more equipment and music(be it questions or background)than most solo & duo artists. The law is wrong and outdated & culturally behind the rest of the world
because the current laws are illogical. Music is part of the cultural life-blood of a nation. We can nuture our artists by supporting laws that will assist them to perform to anyone who wants to hear.
