it is about time for us musicians to shut up, stop complaining wile sitting on our asses and go out there and do somenthing to change this shit. Good on you Jhon Wardle
Sydney desperately needs to improve its nightlife, culture and licencing laws. I travel for a living and can say that Sydney is lacking in these areas compared to similarly sized cities overseas.
Live music is waning not because people don't want to go see it, but because of red tape and public liability insurance that means venues cannot pay bands their true worth. The public is missing out on an abundance of world-class NSW talent as a result.
Overseas travellers I met overseas said Sydney was a beautiful place but the night life is atrocious, there is a major lack of performance opportunities and subsequently a vibrant scene of musicians equal or above most in the world is in threat of collapsing
this campaign is overdue...our musicians, following their profession, most times under very tough conditions need our utmost support.I support this campaign totally.
because it needs to be easier to be permitted to present live music in Sydney. Our community life and out opportunities to hear live music are whittling away.
The NSW licencing laws for live entertainment are ridiculous and need to be changed NOW. No one benefits from the current system, only the NSW government's bank account. It's well on the way to killing NSW music culture.
I find the noise pollution in pubs from large screen TVs and poker machines intolerable and would love to give Australian musicians a head start on what is a difficult profession.
Since the deregulation of Music and Video by the Federal Government (John Howard) It has been increasingly difficult for an Artist to make ends meet. The existing unfair regulation only makes it harder for any artist to make a legitimate living.
I support this petition. I am frequently saddened that the flood of talented young musicians from our education system have so few opportunities to perform their music _ and what's more I miss out on hearing it!
Because too many young musicians are being denied opportunities to perform and are subjected to in some cases of actually having to pay venue owners to use their stage.
It is close to a crime to deny people live music.
because Sydney has lost a great deal of it's soul since culture became secondary to profit margins. Sydney wants to be regarded as one of the worlds great cities and as someone who has lived and worked in a few countries, a central part of this accolade is support for experimantation and celebration in music.
I have watched leglislation & governerment intervention destoy an thriving industry,to only replace it with Poker machines & gambling depts to a comunity that cant more social decline, All gambling does is increase tax revenue !! About time people started tking back their rights to a say in public affairs !!
Live music is a crucial element of the Australian Music Industry, Australia's most successful cultural exporter. As Executive Director of the WA Music Industry Association, live music venues in NSW are a critical element for Western Australian artists to be able to showcase in fron of key industry players on the east coast, and also are vital in developing a national audience.
because Sydney needs more live music venues;Sydney is NOT a retirement village city where you go out & play pokies & watch sport on a big screen...It's a live & breathing cultural city..Please don't put Sydney to sleep!!
