Look at the vibrant music scene in Melbourne - in comparison Sydney is lacking in entertainment and performance opportunities. We have the best musicians and entertainers in the country. Let's get them out among the public contributing to a revived and leading entertainment and tourist industry for NSW
As an expatriate Canadian from Toronto, now making Sydney my home I can say that Sydney is severely lacking in quality live music performances. The city holds a great opportunity to be a leading music capital and yet puts the pokey before the song.
Like all the Arts, their origins are from the bohiem. Government officials need to help put Sydney on the international cultural map. Be guided by those who live, breath & feel the vital need for the performing arts. Get rid of the antiquated & ridiculous P.O.P.E licence and allow vital artisans the freedom to perform & express themselves.
Musicians struggle daily to maintain equipment and hold band members usually with no income producing gain. Artists are encouraged due to support and particpation from the audience, this must continue.
What is life without music and what kind of government would rather support gambling, financial ruin and anti-social behaviour then cultural development, socialization and a diverse society?
I find the assault of loud recorded music, televisions blaring and the ringadingding of pokie machines far more offensive than live music - whatever genre it may be.
Music is another language. It is particularly good for crossing cultural barriers. Our musicians need to play often, and to live audiences in order to develop. Our sporting teams dont just practice on their own, they go and compete with other teams in a real situation. So should our musicians.
As an ex muso and venue promoter i say bring back live music and lets stop the gov taking our hard ernt money through our pubs and clubs. Eg gambling and drunken behaviour through bordem.
because it is absolutely vital to Australia's culture for the general public and government to support and nuture the local live music scene. Except for a few progressive venue owners, Sydney in particular, which claims to be a "global" city has in recent years neglected much of its quality talent.
because live music is necessary for the music industry and most musicisns struggle to make a living as it is. If venues find it easier and more cost effective to put on live music they may be more inclined to do so.
I support this petiion. Why are we denying or making it difficult yet another entrepenerial group/industry from showing their abilities and entertaining us. How else do our young up coming musicians show their talents.
