I support this petition. Legalizing marijuana may have good effects on the economy but may also make crime rate rise. Legalizing marijuana would put drug lords out of business. Do we want to continue having drug lords and spend billions of dollars trying to stop it? Or do we want to sell it and tax the hell out of it and boost out economy. Its a catch 22 though because crime rate could rise due to idiots that smoke. But people are more likely to commit crimes while drinking alcohol. Marijuana should be legalized and sold in stores. The producing of it in homes and distribution of it without a license should still be illegal. This is for the benefit of the economy, not an opportunity for trailer trash to get rich.

I support this petition. And I believe that there is no good reason behind keeping marijuana illegal.

1. No one has ever OD\'d on weed. Everyday, hospitals have to put up with the effects of alcohol, cocaine, heroin and/or pain meds... rarely, if ever, herb. 2. Kids get confused. We need to make a distinction between MJ and other illegal drugs; b/c once kids realize weed isn\'t going to kill them, they generalize the belief to all other illegal substances – could the law be creating the “gate-way” to other drugs?? 3. It would cut the legs out of local & Mexican gangs/cartels, and hopefully reduce the amount of violence that drug trafficking incurs. 4. Currently for those less than 21, it\'s easier to find pot than alcohol. If you take it out of the hands of the local drug dealer, kids would have a tougher time finding it. 5. The punishment far exceeds the toll on those who smoke it; even a minor possession charge will haunt anyone who wants to make something of themselves for the rest of their life. 6. No one is an asshole when they smoke pot. How many people get into fights after smoking as opposed to alcohol, coke or meth??? 7. Making it legal won’t turn everyone into potheads. Since Amsterdam essentially legalized it in 1976, there has been no increased use among its population. 8. Caffeine, alcohol, tobacco & surprisingly spicy foods are all addictive; but not all addictions need rehab in order to quit. Most kids in rehab for marijuana were put there by there overly concerned parents; not because they have a problem, but usually b/c they got caught & want to teach their kid a lesson. 9. Money. The tax revenue generated could fund education, health care or new bullet proof jackets for police or our military. 10. Less BS in the court room. No arrests means more time for the police to take care of the real criminals. ……… Herb MD.
