My family and I would like to offer our deepest condolences to the Lovett family. I also have a 5 year old daughter, and if something happened to her as tragic as this, I wouldn't stop fighting until the person was brought to justice. Joshua Walsh is a murderer, and the legal system has truely shown that it's not only blind to the facts, but also stands for nothing.
Felecia and I(maiden name is Jones) are kin but she probably does not remember me as I have lived abroad with the military since 1985. My family and I were in Japan when Marishka was killed and I never even had a chance to meet her but I felt her mother's lost and I hope she felt my prayers. I'm sorry I was never able to keep up with the judicial proceedings but I am glad that my sister Cartarwa called me and sent me this petition. You guys are still in my prayers and I hope this brings some form of justice and if not here, in God's Court.
I live in Dothan, Al and I know this family personally, we are from the same hometown in Fl. It don't really matter what any of think of this verdict because none of us have the final say. But as people living in these societies and witnessing such mochery of our judicial system, it is totally embarrassing at times to even wanting to be an American. We have such a great system in place, but we all must realize that it is people who run this system, and that's where all the flaws begin but never end. It's ok to state your opinion about this case rather you were for or against the verdict and the way the first trial ended. Do remember this, I can, you can, we all can have a bearing on the next case such as this when we get off of behinds and exercise our rights to vote. Also take the time out to snatch up someone who is not registered and take them with you, and stay with them throughout the process, even if it is a long process by emancipating felons so they can also vote. I guarantee you the outcomes will be more just for all people.
I just saw this case broadcast on CourtTV yesterday and was outraged when I found that he had been acquitted. I think a terrible injustice has been done.
I remembered the first time that I heard about this happening and I thought to my self I wonder what her mother must be going to through at this moment. My first reaction was like everyone else to get upset & lash out at how our court system will fail yet another family, then as the days went by I began to pray and ask GOD for his kind words and to have him bless this family and give the mother strength to overcome this. I am not going to pass judgement on anyone because that isn't my decision to make, just like one of the people on the message board stated GOD will take care of this and he will punish whomever is responsible for this, whether it is the man who shot at the car or for the father who went after the man in the first place knowing that he had his daughter & mother in the car. I do think that they should appeal the decision that was made to have the man off all charges, someone should be punished & I think that the court system should do there jobs, what ever the case we all have to stand up.
It is so sad that that little girl didn't even get to begin her life before it was over. People take life for granted and never realize that life can throw some major curveballs at you.

I read the case story on court tv's website. When I read the verdict,I was shocked. I looked to see what state it took place in. Then I went online to see the race of the victim. I am white, and if Marishka had been a white little girl her death would not have been dismissed so cavalierly.

I hope the jurors have to look at this little girls picture every day for the rest of their lives, and I hope Joshua Walsh never knows the joy of parenthood, or has one happy moment in his life without thinking of the senseless murder of this innocent little girl. He should thank his lucky stars he is white and she was black because there can not be any other reason for this verdict...it makes me ashamed of my country that so many people still make decisions based on color and social position...what a tragedy!

My heart is weary after viewing this case on Court TV this week. I'm not one of those people who bring up race in every incident but I feel, I know had this child been white and the shooter black the cahrges would have been at least 2nd degree murder and that judge would never have overturned the first verdict.

This story really broke my heart. My prayers go out to the Lovett family. It's so sad to see an innocent, beautiful child taken away so early because adults don't think about the consequences of their actions. All parties share some responsibity and the shooter should be punished to some extent. I can't get over the acquittal of all charges!! I am so sick over this. Joshua Walsh should have called the police when his brother was hit, like any normal person would have done, he chose to shoot that shot gun not knowing what it would hit, I am so sad that this beatiful little girl is gone. I can only let God judge joshua walsh now.
I think the justice systems has been unfair for so long that his does not surprise me. We are still living in a world where we look at color for facts and reasons and not at the situation itself. Walsh says it is self defence but according to the law, that is not self defence so why is it that he goes free while Mariska dies? I know that the Lovett family knows that she is an Angel in heaven and Walsh will pay when judgment day comes.
I just saw coverage of this case on CourtTV. All of the adult males behaved badly. But only one man pulled out a shotgun and used it. Are we really supposed to believe that a TransAm counldn't get away from a Ford Escort over a 20-mile distance? It is clear that Joshua Walsh was called in order to set up an ambush for Lovett.

Tyrone pursued the Walsh car, even though his mother & child were in the car. He said he followed them because they "cut" him off. How many times has the average person been "cut" off and just ignored it. A bunch. Tyrone chose to pursue a confrontation and he got what he wanted. A big mess. He is to blame for his daughter's death.
This is a sad situation. The justice system in this country is backwards. However the walsh family might be celebrating now, but when judgement day arrives it will be a whole different story. Just leave it god's hands he will do the rest

It is truly sad to read the racist comments left by some of the respondents. A llittle girl has lost her life. Somehow I fail to find the humor in that. As a mother, a human, a doctor and an African American I truly hurt for the Lovett family.

Given all the facts if a jusry of his peers convicted him the first time then it is up to his lawyers to seek an appeal based on new evidence. It was my understanding that this was how our legal system works. The judge should not have stepped in to over turn the verdict and that should be investigated. A little girl lost her life because of the reckless decisions of adults and someone should be held accountable.
I wonder how a person can use a shotgun in self-defence by shooting into a car. Was my perception that in the State of Florida having an avenue of retreat, and time to react from a difficult situation will avoid you a self-defence alibi.
