we screened this at the Pacific Film Archive in 2002 and had two sold-out shows, with many people still clamoring to get in. the interest, and audience, is there.
A necessary steps not only for those who have seen it, but also for those of us living in cities which abhor cinema, we only have the grand outlet of DVD. Please, make this available to the public.
If released with English subtitles, I will definitely want to purchase a copy! I will forward this to "Laserdisken" -- one of the biggest retailers of all things DVD in North Europe.
Kind Regards,
Michael Lund
I am extremely interested in seeing this film on DVD. A restoration, and special features, would be fantastic. I will be sure to purchase it upon release.
Franticek Vlacil is one of the greats of world cinema. His films, particularly Adelheid, Hadi Jed, and Smoke on the Potato Fields should be more widely available. Releasing Marketa Lazarova will be a good step in this direction.
This film is rightly considered the greatest Czech film of all time, a magisterial work that spellbinds and intoxicates like the rarest wine and matures with age. It deserves to be better known.
A release would be greatly appreciated...
As a cinema fanatic I buy DVDs from all around the world, and Markéta Lazarová is one I have been scouring the world for. A DVD release with English subtitles (as well as other languages) and some good bonus features would make this a certain purchase upon release. It is an important film in Czech history and in world cinema history. An absolute necessity on the DVD market.
One can only hope that a DVD release of Markety Lazarové will herald not only a long overdue resurge in popularity for this film, but a renaissance for Eastern European films on DVD as a whole. The neglection of such a film as this is shocking to say the least.
Seen once only at a festival screening and not forgotten - but never spotted anywhere again! DVD yes please : OAR; progressive; remastered; English subs etc.
