I agree -- we do not need a mascot! Steelers fans are incredible -- we don't need some mascot (especially one this cheezy) to drum up support for our Steelers!
Steely McBeam is such a stupid childish name. The mascot itself is alright, but can you think of a more embarassing name than Steely McBeam. Besides at there is a larger majority of adult fans at the Steelers game. I vote the name should be Iron Al.
The mascot isn't bad, but the name is HORRIBLE!! Who's idea was it to call it Steely McBeam?? PLEASE come up with a name that fits the Steeler tradition!!!
i think this is a stupid name. we are trying to think of a new mascot for the steel city tough STEELERS! We're trying to think of a great TOUGH mascot, not one that sounds like it came out of a nick jr. show!
This mascot this is absolute crap. Steeler Nation fans run deep and some dink on the sidelines was and will never be needed. The fans hold thier own and we support our team will blood, heart, and soul. This so called help is not wanted.
Steely Dan or Jim Beam? Steely McBeam...too fake and not at all representative of our true spirit The name is not suppose to represent the city. The team does that. The mascot represents the team. Our team is tough, but with a name like Steely McBeam it sounds whimpy.
one of the greatest things about the steelers is that we don't do cheerleaders and until this year, we don't do mascots...that's one of the things that make us the Steelers...get rid of him...DO IT!!

Mascots are collegiate at best. Professional franchises do not need them. (Except where they may believe that the fan base is weak and the mascot is needed to provide entertainment aka the Pirates.)
Get rid of the mascot already. Its disrespectful to the sport and to the Steelers. This city has supported this team with more energy and heart than most larger-city teams could hope for; all without the aid of cheerleaders and mascots which only distract from the game.

The entire concept of this mascot is ludicrous, just not the name. We don't need a mascot, we need a good team. Please spend your money on the players instead of this extraneous distraction. Next thing you know, we'll be having pierogie races at the football game.
