One of the biggest problems in Canada and in the US is there is never enough ethnic politicians who would clearly understand the bigger picture of whats going on and the history of wars. When swayed by money, power and lies, the cowardness of one nation's government truly emerges. Mr.Harper and his apprentices, stop collecting your high paid salaries or get off your butts and earn it.
Soldiers are not kidnapped when they are in uniform and in occupied territory. They were taken prisoner, as would happen to any other soldier. Further, Hezbollah is not a terrorist group. It is a fully develooped political movement indigenous to Lebanon. It works for the social welfare of the people and sits in the Lebanese parliament. It is far more popular in Lebanon than the Neo-Conservatives who sit on the government side in Canada.
I find the Canadian Government stance vis-a-vis the Middle East not only shameful, butt I am sorry to say disgusting. The government does not even have a policy of its own, so we follow the Bush government like poodles follow their masters. Our governmrnt was the pioneer in cutting aid to the Palestinians because they simply elected a governemnt in a democratic fashion.Where is the Canada that the world was proud of. Als it has disappeared . My question to Harper and his cronies is do you really undersatnd the middle east problem? I think it's high time that you get educated.Shame on you Steve-as Bush calls you.
i am sure the american government is very pleased with this very pro israel policy , but it doesn,t help any sane diplomatic process nor does it support the un charter. canada,s position is now a usa position which is most unfortunate for it implicates all of us
I would like Mr Harper to sit down for a moment and look at the pictures of the inhured and killed people as well as the destroyed residential places in Lebanon and tell the Canadians which part of that was measured
I support this petition because Restore Canada's role as a peacemak I support this petition because Canadian political stands have to remain as nobleas Canadian values of multiculturalism and humanequality
because killing children and civilians is not "measured", killing over 300 civilians to show the world that capturing two soldiers is wrong is not "measured". By the way Lebanon has prisoners in the israeli's jails for over than 20 years, is this a reason to destroy Israel. where's Rice to defend the prisoners' rights, where's Kofi annan, where's bush that's delaying on purpose their interference to give Israel the necessary time to destroy Lebanon.
because Israel has been indiscriminately on killing civilians and destroying infrastructure for which she should be condemned as Canadian support to Israeli action under pretext of 'self defence is totally unjustified. I do not agree with the way the Prime Minister of Canada is addressed, even thought I disagree with his position.
These war crimes by the Israeli army and government are completely unacceptable and I am ashamed that Harper and others in the Canadian Government are joining and condoning the worst hawks in the international community. Their position disgusts me.
Canada should also restore aid to the elected Palestinian government and demand that Israel, as occupying power and signatory to Geneva Conventions, is obligated to protect civilians.
You have to remember that you are in a minority government. Your special interest as a Conservative are not supported by a majority of Canadians so you are obliged to temper your statements. Canada is a plurality and you as Prime Minister represent the spectrum of our citizenry. Many Canadians question the force used by Israel on a regular basis to enforce their point of view.
Mr Harper you are making this nation ashamed of beeing canadian by supporting the massacres of civilians perpetrated by israel in Lebanon. How can you sleep at night knowing you agree on the killing and destruction of an entire country and his people.
Canada deserves much better than you as a leader. At least some one who knows something about foreign policies on the Middle East.
Stop following the
ideas of your friend bush his policies are a desaster all over the world.
It is the height of hypocrisy that that the leaders of the so-called free world continue to condone Israeli war crimes and its illegal occupation of Palestinian, Syrian and Lebanese land.
I am against any violence, from Israël as well as from Hezbollah. For the moment being, it urges that Israël, the strong state, ceases to kill so many civilians.
What kind of measured response Mr Prime minister. The whole country for two solders.
Can you please tell me what kind of measurement you used?
Stop accusing everybody disagreeing with you of being a terrorist. If you really want to know who is the terrorist, just think about the feelings of the lebanease right now. They are simply terrified.
Shame on you. You are a big failure for Canada. This position is way bigger than your capabilities sir
Only the PM of Israel, and George Bush, and our PM said that. We all know who George Bush is, so it is a shame that our PM followed him!!!. We miss VERY MUCH the great man Mr. Jean Chretien. He made Canada an independent and well-respected country all over the world. Mr. Harper is destroying this great reputation by making such wrong, unmeasured, and unjustified comments. Please, Mr. Harper, don't talk about politics before you study a little bit of history. And please -for the sake of Canada- ask your foreign affairs minister to stop talking about this crisis as well. This is an advice from someone who loves this great country.
The short sightedness of supporting such aggression as exhibited by the Israeli government will have long term repercussions. Harper and his cabinet are not thinking through this situation clearly, are following not leading, and have allowed the situation to deteriorate. The destruction by the Israeli army of life and livlihood in Lebanon, a country whose people have worked hard to recover and revitalize their econmony after years of violence and instability, is not supportable, not excuseable, not condonable. As a Canadian, I am ashamed that my country and my government has not taken a more enlightened stand on this issue.
