Israel Kidnaps Palestinian, nobody notices, Palestinians retaliate by doing the same, its labelled an escalation of violence and the whole country is invaded. The Self-Defence stance only qualifies for the Palestinians. The Zionists are the terrorists.
Your response was not measured, Mr. Harper. You do not speak for me or my family. Canada has a reputation as a rational, honest broker with an independent voice in international affairs. You are tarnishing our reputation. This is unacceptable.
As a Canadian living in the Middle East (Dubai), this situation/position is beyond disturbing, it is embarrassing as a Canadian with such a strong history of objectivity, and fairness in our foreign policy.
because you, Mr Harper, didn't condemn Israel, for violating the Lebanese airspace by its warplanes, for not respecting the blue line (always condemned by the UN) and for holding Lebanese prisoners in Israeli jails; all of this was before the capturing of 2 Israeli soldiers by the Lebanese resistance (Hezbollah) to the occupier.
Israel could not eliminate the Hezbollah organization during its 20 year occupation of lebanon. How do they expect a six year fledgling democracy,(which has already been defanged by unwarranted external influences)to achieve what they failed to do.Mr. Harper, wake up and stop being a lackey. You can do much better than that.Lebanon has no issues with Israel. What Israel is doing, endorsed by the west, is genocide, pure and simple. They should know better after what they have been through.
I know from my family history the suffering of the Jews, the Inquisition, the Ghettoes, the Holocuast. That we have endured such horrors is no excuse to perpetrate them on others. The continual violence of the Israeli state in the name of the Jewish people only defames the Jews. In the name of all Talmudic principles of justice and compassion, Israel's aggression must be stopped!
At a time of imminent crisis, Stephen Harper dangerously supported Israel unequivocally. He has reversed the long standing Canadian position in the Middle East of one of an "honest broker" between all sides to a radical supporter of Israeli aggression. This while over 40,000 of our fellow Canadians are trapped in Lebanon. A dangerous move by an inexperienced and ignorant Prime Minister who has now positioned Canada to the "right" of the Bush White House. I support the protection of ALL civilians, Lebanese, Israeli, Palestinian during this explosively critical time.
lebanon is a sovereign country. the israeli invasion and bombing of the country and people is a war crime. likewise the invasion of the gaza. how much worse can things get in the region before canada act with humanity. israel needs to me held accountable. what is going on in palestine and lebanon is ethnic cleansing
Prime Minister Stephen Harper's position on the crisis in the Middle East reveals a deep-seated bias towards the co-habiting economic, military and political interests of the State of Israel and the United States of America. It is a position founded on a selective memory of the historical events that underpin the current crisis.
Above all, the killing of innocent civilians and inflicting of suffering on a general population are neither balanced nor measured responses; to suggest so devalues some human lives over others and at its core, the PM's ideological position promotes hatred.
I support this position and to add to Cait Beattie's comments. Imagine if you can, the RAF flying accross the Atlantic to bomb Montreal and Ottawa in respense to British Diplomat James Cross being kidnapped by the FLQ.
