I support this petition because picking sides, laying blame, and being impotent is
not what Canada is about. Canadians expect their government to reflect Canadian
values - helping the innocent and working to resolve the conflict and ending
suffering of the innocent.
I fully support this petition. I am outraged at the position this government taken. You have a minority government Mr. Harper - you do not have sufficient mandate to overturn Canada's long held stance on Middle East issues. To say "shame" is an understatement.
Shame on you, Mr Harper, for turning a cruel and blind eye to human suffering on such a horrific scale. To add insult to injury, you even condone and actively support the destruction of Lebanon and the Lebanese people. So un-Canadian, so inhuman, so unspeakably grotesque and uncivilized. Shame, shame, shame.
Your position on this matter is clearly biased and betrays either a great ignorance with respect to the history of middle east conflicts or an out and out betrayal of the principles of justice.
the petition speaks for itself. Mr. Harper, for a change you should try to "measure" the consequences of your response before speaking. No doubt Hezbollah is guilty too. But why Israel choose to respond with so much aggression by ignoring international law against an enemy that is a fraction of it's military might makes one wonder. I am ashamed that, as a Canadian, you are my representative.
Mr. Harper is governing a nation filled with people from all walks of life and should represent us as a whole. He has clearly taken sides in this matter.
If any country tries to impose "democracy" with bombs in the Middle East, we are approaching a nuclear weapon crisis. The implications for the world are enormous.
As your government supports of this ad nauseum pit of violence, innocent civilians are mutilated and killed and their property destroyed just because of where they are situated .
Surely there are cooler heads to prevail in a country like ours, surely there is a source of integrity somewhere in our government that knows right from wrong.
While I believe Israel has the right to self-defense, I also agree with Dr. Rowan Williams (Archbishop of Canterbury) who said that there will be no peace in the region unless there is stability. This war only increases instability, placing Israel in a more tenuous position. It is not a measured response, but a foolhardy one.
Shame on you Mr. Harper. But then again, such an act is no wonder from a Canadian government that allowed itself to be a puppet toy in the hand of the Bushes and the Neo-cons in Wanshington and Israel. If those people have got their ways with our Canadian government then, i would like to say good bye to the good times when Canadians used to be so proud for being guardians of human rights and freedom and the listeners of the victims'(the weaker) voices. Mr. Harper, if you want to win fame the easy way then i encourage to suck up as much as you can to Israel and the US. But if you want to be remembered for doing the right thing, then i suggest that you do it.
because I am sick of Israel and the US getting away with the cold blooded murder of millions of innocent civilians whose only crime is living in a Muslim country. We should not just be concerned about the lives of those holding Canadian, American, Italian and French passports but about those innocent civilians in Lebanon who have no where to be evacuated and are abandoned under ruthless Israel bombardment.
I strongly support this petition and request Harper to at least think about the innocent Canadians killed by Zionist forces they had nothing to do with capturing (not kidnapping) 2 Zionists by Hezbollah Mujahideen. The recent Canadian killed by Zionist was among the 4 UN peacekeepers killed by a Zionist bomb in Lebanon on July 25th.Again it’s a shame on Harper.
Facism is spreading like wildfire under the guise of democracy and the self-defense of states. Neo-con hoodlums are sending humanity into another dark ages as the masses rally around their televisions to watch their pied pipers lead the world into a blaze of ignorant fury and bombs. Tele-sedation through media spin is keeping everyone asleep and helpless.
Please realize that we (most) Canadians do not wish to be among those who constantly justify the use of force. States also can act like terrorists by any act that breaks the Geneva convention-- that includes the US and Israel, as well as Hezbollah, and other
groups such as Al-quaida, the IRA, etc. Please do not join the people who want to keep weaponry sales as a huge economic boom based on the blood of civilians!
I have been quite distressed with your endorsement of Israel's invasion of Lebanon as well as with the slow response time in starting to evacuate Canadians caught in the conflict.
Canada should always stand for justice and speak out to avoid violence and loss of life. The conflict is sad for both sides and will only create more problems down the road. Canada should clearly stand against this cycle of institutionalized violence.
