I was happy that Canada has traditionally played the role of 'non aggressor' and am very saddened that we're following the path of yet another 'bully' of the world.

For 39 years now Israel has been ignoring international law and UN Resolutions by imposing a brutal occupation on the Palestinian people. This most recent attack on Lebanon is NOT "a measured response" to the kidnapping of 2 Israeli soldiers. Capturing 2 Israeli soldiers does NOT justify attacking an entire country and killing their civilian population (including Canadians). Do you think that the lives of Arabs are unimportant, Sir? Do your job and stick to international law. I'm a Jew who feels that the attacks in Lebanon are comletely disporportional. While I'm not convinced by certain portions of this petition-- I do believe Islamic Islamic fundamentalists play an important role in prolonging this conflict-- Israel can't kill ordinary civilians or damage Lebanese infastructure.

You have cited Lebanon's obligation to fulfill UNSC Resolution 1559: why are you silent about Israel's obligation ot fulfill UNSC 242 and withdraw its armed forces and dismantle its illegal settlements from the Palestinina territories it has occupied since 1967? There can be no peace in the region until this is fulfilled... but then you surely don't think Israel's extraordinary violence in Gaza and Lebanon is likely to promote peace?
Dear Mr. Harper, it is so sad to see you as the leader of the Canadian Government to have not been as compassionate for civilians in Lebanon as for the Israeli Government and its citizens. Taking side so early and minimizing the impact of the Israeli aggression was a clear indication of your lack of knowledge and experience of the world beyond the North American continent. I support whoel heartedly this petition and hope that you will never have to experience what innocent civilians in Lebanon are experiencing. Your strong support of the invasion of Iraq despite the lack of clear evidence of Weapons of Mass Destruction when you were leader of the opposition should have already taught you that prudence is required when the actual american administration is involved. Following their foreign policy is only to bring more misery to a great many people.
Violence is not the solution to the problems of the Middle East but the cause. It has also been the justification for terrorism, whether state-sponsored or religious-inspired. Canada has a tradition of calm, rational, and principled peace-making: Respect that tradition!
