Obviously the P.M. and his minister of foreign affairs need some education. I refer them to the interview with Robert Fisk, Wednesday, July 19, 2006, and the articles by Uri Avenery the known Israeli Peace activist. If they only read, they will realize the colonial nature of Israel and its invasion of Lebanon. The desire of Israel to grab southern Lebanon for its Litani River is an established fact. I am sure the two novice Canadian politicians Know that there is no free lunch and what goes around comes around. Standing for bigotry and fascism will fire back on Canada.
Mr Prime Minister (or shall we too just say "Steve" in formal communique?):
I support this petition because one cannot morally justify an overwhelming state military response against an entire civilian society and infrastructure based on the flimsy excuse that a foreign-supported militant faction within that society has aggressed against the responding state. This is a war crime we are witnessing, and your inhumane and irresponsible statements and blind support for Israel goes against all Canadian values and the majority wishes of your citizenry. We implore you to reconsider your position, for the sake of the future of Canada and your own soul. Your hypocrisy risks being revealed tomorrow, if another powerful nation were to attack a weaker one on such flimsy pretexts; think for example what you would say if China simply obliterated Taiwan tomorrow using as justification a fringe aggression by a minority militia group there. Some day, that weaker nation may be Canada itself, being attacked by our own powerful cousin nations using such pretexts. You have a duty to stand up with courage to defend International Law and civil society. Your Creator is greater than you, and we shall each be called to account for our responsibilities...
I can't believe this is happening. Why are you not providing for debate and a vote in the House of Commons on this and on other fundamental issues such as our changed role in Afghanistan?
During WWII, a people was almost decimated and the world stood by and did nothing and we all still carry the guilt. Today the same thing is happening and we not only stand by and do nothing, worse, we align ourselves with the aggressor.... Shame on the so-called civilized democracies.
Fighting is not the answer to the current crisis nor is taking sides in the issues today since the problem goes way back to the authorities who authorized Israel to occupy the land of the Palestinians
I support this petition because clearly our PM and cabinet is not representing neither Canaidan values (peacekeeping) or Canadian interests. Canadians have been killed as a result of Isreal's 'measured act'. Mr. Harper cares more about two captured Isreali soldiers than he does about dead Canadians and other civilians.
A government that represents all of its citizens, especially in a country that is such a multicultural one as ours, should consider the views of the population as a whole and not simply the interests of a few special interest groups or foreign governments.
The government has lost its way. It seems it has no concern for the lives of innocents and the stability of poor Lebanon then and is only concerned with bolstering the Israeli agression.
Understand that from your statements on this issue, mr. harper, that I withdraw the last inch of my signature on the social contract upon which the Canadian state is built upon.
Jacques Moreau
It is unbelievable that a Canadian government would endorse the destruction of a nation's infrastructure because terrorists groups it does not control and cannot control captured two soldiers of the occupying power.
How can you live with your conscience when inncocent civilians are being targeted with collective punishment. Did the insanity start with the kidnap of two soldiers or the ongoing repression of a people by a nation that takes their cues straight from the Nazi playbook of the 1940's.

The JDF bombing of grain silos in three different cities of Lebanon suggests a plan for ethnic cleansing, for genocide. Your support for this, Mr. Harper, makes it dangerous to be a Canadian in many parts of the world. Please start to think for yourself,to think morally and to act like the Canadian we Canadians want you to be.
Your complicity in hiding the truth of the Origin of State of Israel and subsequent grabbing the Palestinian Land is being deliberately hidden from the people and trying to support and justify the atrocities is nothing short of Hitler's action.
How can you live with your conscience when innocent people are being victimised by collective punishment. Did the insanity start with the kidnapping of two soldiers or the ongoing brutal repression of a country that appears to be working striaght from the Nazi playbook of the 1940's.
I am ashamed to be internationally represented by this man and his inhumane and uneducated statements. Canada is about human rights and compassion, and you sir, are not a true representative of Canadian values.
We shall never forget your inhumanity.
how can anyone support a crime against humanity? I wonder how you can sleep at night Mr. Harper? Dont you hear the cries of children and civilians echoing in you ears at night? You lack objective decisions for a leader of a whole nation. May you see the light.
